Out the kitchen window (open). One leg of the tripod in the sink, one on the window frame and the other on the counter top.

Thanks to Barbie, Erv and Photophile for the comments. The feeder the birds were using is right the minimum focus distance for the lens I was using and if I go outside they won't stick around long enough to get at least a few different shots!

I have never tried to shoot BIF with my camera on a tripod!

If they were not hovering in pretty much the same spot I would not had the chances I got. There was just enough tension to assist holding the camera and lens. At 79 I'm really not into holding a 200-500 lens on a d810 for more than a minute or so. This was my first try and I think it turned out pretty well. Now I have to learn how to "light up" the flashy colors.

I've shot these little rockets at feeders, and your focus is just amazing.

It helped that there were several birds at the feeders we still have out so the hungry ones have to wait in line. Back button focus and it's like shooting fish in a barrel!
