The Snowy that got away.
The day that I went to shoot the sea ducks and gull that I posted the other day I really went to this spot to see if the Snowy Owls were there. WELL, there were two of them but they were on the far back in the middle of sea debris, beach signs and one behind a snow fence. There were around six of us waiting, and waiting and waiting for them to shift positions for a better photo when down the far shore came a group of three people marching along through the protected area of the marsh with a DOG OFFLEASH. That pretty much took care of that. They were oblivious to what they had done, if it had been possible for the group standing with me to walk on water, this would not have ended well. High frame rate or not....this is all I ended up with. Tomorrow's another day.

ty, it's not, but I'm going back. I have no idea how long they will be in the area. We only get this kind of influx every four years or so...

That's not bad even though you were expecting better. I've only seen one so far this year and it was more then 1/4 mile away. BTW, nice BIF!
I think its a great shot, but I'm just a person who isn't off auto mode yet, and am happy with a picture that isn't blurry
For me, as an amateur with a Nikon P900, your shot of that owl is great. Yes, it lacks detail, but the wings aren't blurry. I am not one to sit in a blind for hours waiting for a perfect shot. I go on hikes and shot whatever I see along the way.....I miss many shots as the birds fly away ahead of me. So, I say to you...."Great shot".
Fantastic catch, Chris!!!

Beautiful photo! I've never seen wings like that!
I would be happy with that shot! I have never seen a Snowy Owl and would be so excited to get any shot of one. You did good!

Go to E Bird and ask for their daily report on all reported snowy owls in the lower 48 states. This has been a bumper crop year for snowy owls back East. There have been so many sightings in Ohio. Hope you get a chance to see several as this does not happen every year. You should still have another good month of viewing. Just checked yesterday's report. Fairport Nursery Rd, Lake Ohio and Old Turnpike, Fremont Ohio and Sandusky Ohio. Hope some of these locations are close for you.
