I am new to digital and I don't even have my first digital camera yet. When I asked in other thread about which Nikon digital SLR should I buy and someone posted this. So I quote

Take a look at the new Sony cameras - no mechanical parts to wear out"

and this

Since you are considering low light photography, you take a look at the Sony a7s11. It is la low light champ. There are reasonably priced adapters to use all of your Nikon lenses. Go to the Sony site and check out some low light examples."

Those prompted me to check the Sony out as I wasn't even aware of them before I joined the UHH.

Untrue. The main point of mechanical failure in cameras have always been shutters, and the Sony has one too. Mirror mechanisms tend to be quite reliable in dslrs.

The Sony A7SII is indeed great in low light, but 12 MP is a bit low for still photography. It is designed for video primarily within the A7 series, where the low MP sensor has decided advantages.

That's some interesting info that you just provided. I didn't realize the versatility of the Sony E-mount in accepting many Brands of lenses. Putting the E-mount in a completely different category from other digital cameras. I would guess that the Sony A-mount does not have such versatility?

Indeed not.The E mount has a flange distance of 17mm, while the A mount’s is 44.5mm. That means that you can mount Nikon manual lenses on it but not much else. Canon has a flange distance of 44mm, so it is possible to adapt M42, Pentax K, Exakta and Olympus OM lenses to Canon with infinity focus.

Do note that other mirrorless cameras also have very short flange distances, so the Sony is almost unique only in being full frame. I say almost because the Leica SL is also FF with a flange distance of 18mm, but odd adapters for the SL are not readily available because the market is small.
