It probably wasn't the International Space Station. ISS appears as a bright dot usually as bright as the brightest star and moves faster than most planes. This length of that light trail would have been about 3 seconds of exposure of the ISS. At 1/400sec the ISS would just have been a dot.

Hi MichaelH,

Yes, I know that. I originally responded to the OP's comment about the light trail being a satellite and why it's unlikely one. In that comment, while being a little facetious, I made an exaggerated statement about the speed if it really was a satellite. So as I said here, the geek in me took over and I estimated a more realistic speed based on the info in this thread assuming the light streak was in fact a satellite. Turns out that it wasn't an exaggeration, but a gross underestimation. Just having a little fun with the challenge.

To the OP. With reflections, my comments could have been interpreted as being a little rude. I was just having fun with your challenge and was not trying in any way to be rude. Hopefully you didn't take it that way. If I did offend, then my sincerest apologies.

Mike

I now believe is was a Satellite, the contrail was not one of an airplane so I'll leave it at that.

Don't worry about the a**h**les on here. They're harmless and braindead.

I've heard these arguments over and over again. This article is not convincing in the least. That doesn't mean I believe in chemtrails, it doesn't mean I don't either. I have not seen chemtrails, so called, for a long time, but when I did, and I have seen them in Florida, Georgia, and New Mexico, and the interesting thing is, these were not normal flyovers. When it happened, it was exclusively military jets, and it wasn't normal flight patterns, there were multiple planes, that were crisscrossing, crisscrossing, and crisscrossing, over and over again, until the sky was almost totally white. Commercial airlines were not doing the same thing, there were no contrails or chemtrails being made at that time by commercial airlines. I do not pretend to know the reason for this, there may be more than one, and one good possibility that they are trying to limit the sunlight coming into earth, to keep temperatures cool on the earth. If so, nothing mysterious about that. It is a very real possibility. But anyone who thinks they know, doesn't.

I wonder if you live near an Air Force base? There was the case recently where a liftoff happened and it puzzled people. The interesting thing about it was that it had a fireball behind it that had a different shape than we are used to seeing. It almost looked like a plasma shield. Our military is far more advanced than people realize. This is too far away to see if it has that same type of aura, but it might. I don't know.

I vote for contrail, Occum's razor-- the simplest answer is usually correct. example- If you are in Texas and you hear hoof beats, it's probably not zebras
