I will use it for video. Set some kind of camera on it and let it go in a straight line or a circle. It will be good for panning shots. My son does a lot of video, so it will be perfect for him. It might be too fast for time lapse, but I'll give it a try. The friend who showed me his slider does a lot of video. Basically, it's a gadget, and I like gadgets.

Traditional camera sliders with motors can cost hundreds of dollars and generally just go in a straight line.
