Taken a few years ago on one of our many visits to the Islands. Location was along Tantalus Drive on the outskirts of the city with camera mounted on a tripod in a vertical (portrait) position.
Very nice. I used to live on the far side of that mountain in the background. Lived there for my first 7 years. None, or very few, of those tall buildings were there then.

Thanks for the comments. I can just imagine that the city looks a bit different than when you spent your early days living there. I shot the photos, I believe it was 7 or 8, that went into creation of the panorama in 2012 with my camera of the day, a Pentax istDL with only 6.1 megapixels and an 18-55mm lens.
Nice panorama. I spent three years in Hawaii when I was in the Air Force stationed at Hickam AFB from 1965 to 1968. I have a photo I took at about the same location during those years. It's not a pano, however. I posted some photos on UHH a couple years ago which included my rendition of his photo.
Anybody interested in seeing Honolulu from 50 years ago here is the photo I posted before.

The 50 year old Honolulu photos didn't get nearly as much attention as the post I did about calling lenses glass (I took a lot of heat on that) or the railroad and plane pictures I posted on UHH.

Thanks for posting the "before."
Good shot, especially of Diamond Head!

I would have liked to see the Islands 50 years ago! We have made regular visits since 1990 and we have noticed quite a bit more luxury high rise construction in the city which has resulted in an ever growing number of homeless people who have been displaced from anything resembling affordable housing! . Your photo does look like you took it from about the same location. It would have been interesting to see a bit more of Honolulu, I bet things have changed quite a bit since your time there.
