Greetings fellow hoggers;

I think it's time to replace my old 6 year old desktop PC. Topaz, which I love doesn't like my system. I will have the new machine custom built by my local PC shop. The specs I think will work for me are as follows;

PROCESSOR
AMD Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz (8C/16T,20MB Cache, 3.7GHz (Precision Boost)

1 TB SSD
4 TB HHD
48 GB RAM

Windows 10 64 Bit

DVD-RW Drive

WIRELESS
802.11ac (2X2) + Bluetooth 4.1

PORTS & SLOTS
Universal audio jack
Type-C USB 3.1 Gen 1
Super Speed USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (2)
Card Reader
PS2 (2)
Super Speed USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type A (4)
RJ45+USB 2.0 (2)
Audio output

Now I have acquired these specs from several sources and my question is which graphics card should I use for heavy post processing? Also, where do you feel I'm going wrong on my specs.

Thanks in advance.

I would switch the DVD-RW with a Blu-Ray burner.

Michael, this looks like it'll work for several years to come. Nice choice.

As far as graphics card, I would say that anything with HDMI and 8GB or more is fine. You will want HDMI if you want to use a 4K monitor.

I'm using an Asus Nvidia 1070 and it works well with Topaz.

I recently upgraded my computer and I don't know a whole lot about them but it was designed to handle large graphics files. The one they installed (Dell) is a AMD Firepro(TM) W4100 2GB (4 mDP) (4MDP-DP adapters). It can run 4 monitors at a time. If you type the name into Google you can get the rest of the information. And of course it can handle 4K.

With a rig like that your monitor(s) should be at least 4k and from what the experts say accept a display port/panel output from whatever video card you choose.

Jake, you have Some good basic specs. My suggestions are, first have many 3.0 usb ports. I have about 12 and all of them are in use.
It would behoove you to have 1 tb of ram. This will allow faster processing. It also allows for growth. When I had mine built, the computer builder suggested the fastest gaming card available. Now whether you play games or not, this makes sense. Photos will show up quicker, especially with today's high mp count cameras. Again this allows for growth. I had mine built in 2007 and it is serving me well. I have had to replace the hard drive, but mine can still process my images quickly. Good luck and enjoy your new computer.

That is a very nicely spec'ed computer; I am sure you will enjoy it and find it very useful.

There might be some advantage to using a Radeon card instead of an NVIDIA GPU, since your CPU will be AMD--I am strictly an Intel user, so search or consult someone who really knows. I would be certain my DVD or Blueray recorder supports M-discs as well as all the other standard media.

You might look here:

I am still using a Nov 2011 built semi custom built gaming computer from iBUYPOWER. I am considering more RAM and a newer video card.

👍👍👍 Absolutely. That will allow you to record/play both BluRay and MDisks.

Game cards use graphics differently than Photoshop, I good gaming card will work but look for ones more dedicated to photos
