I spent a good ten minutes squatting in front of this guy watching him pose and shooting with an OMD-E M1, 40-150mm PRO w/ 1.4x extender. This shot was my favorite of the set. We seemed to be establishing something of a rapport - he got most of my jokes anyway...
f/8, ISO-400, 1/400s, 210mm.
Anybody care to hazard an identification? Shot July 2017 on Badger Mountain, in SE Washington State. I believe the perch is a Fiddlehead Tarweed. The model's wingspan is about 3".
Great shot but difficult to ID from the angle. Do you have a dorsal shot or a shot from the side showing the thoracic and abdominal markings. Possibly a Columbia Clubtail (Gomphurus lynnae) immature female or Olive Clubtail (Stylurus olivaceus). Anyway, a fine shot.

Here are three other views of the same or similar dragonflies.
Thanks

That was much easier Dennis. What you have here is an
Erpetogomphus compositus — White-belted Ringtail. First and last shots are female, second is a male. These shots are spectacular. This is not a species I would get to see here in the East. Firts rate set sir. May I ask the equipment and settings for your shots?
Thanks and have a great day.

Thanks for the ID and the compliments!
All were taken in mid-morning hazy sunlight, handheld, in aperture mode with Olympus OMD-E M1, 40-150mm PRO w/ 1.4x extender, ISO-400, 210mm (extended focal length), -0.3 step exposure bias.
First shot: f/9, 1/320s
Second: f/6.3, 1/1000s
Third: f/5.6, 1/640s
The original post and first two of these have been lightly post-processed and cropped from RAW, while the last one is in-camera .jpg.
Thanks for that information.

I like the first one. You can tell she is listening to you and closely observing you by the way her head is tilted!😊

I'm not certain, but I think that's a male, based on the swelling at the tail end of the abdomen (consistent with Doc's verdict). I think that was his reaction to the joke about why 45's wives have been foreign-born...
