Welcome to our forum!

Do you mean Gigapixel? All modern cameras feature megapixel sensors.

Never heard of "Megapixel Photography" - is that what you mean? Or are you asking about the value / importance of more megapixels on a sensor?

Never heard of it. Why would you want to get started in it if you don't know what it is?

To get started, buy a digital camera. Then learn how to operate it. Soon enough, you will be generating many megapixels.

You must be thinking of gigapixel photography. It is rather easy. You take lot of pictures and stitch them together to make a large picture with lot of details. To start you should download Microsoft ICE. It is free and good program to stitch photos.

When taking the photos it is best to take the photos in manual mode and use the same settings for all the pictures you are going to stitch together. If you do not do that you will end up with mismatch in brightness, focusing, white balance etc.

For further info use google. There is lot of info about this online.

Most camera's today boast at least 20 Megapixel. When digital first came out 5 megapixel camera's were the norm, then 7, then 10, then 12, then 18, and now it is common for a digital camera to boast 24 megapixels. Usually the higher the megapixel count the better the image quality but that alone is not a measure of the quality of a potential image, other factors also come in to play. At 20 megapixels you'll get up to 20X30 prints with excellent quality. You can get camera's with more megapixels and generally the more you get the higher the price of the camera.

I bought a 2MP camera for my wife around 2002. I know there were digital cameras with less than 1MP. Nikon first DSLR the E2 has 1.2MP with 2/3 inch sensor and no crop factor.

Yes, I was referring to Gigapixel Photography. Again, what is it and how does one get started in it? I know it has something to do with computers but what other equipment is required?

LOL. It seems the person asking the question knows more about than we do. Perhaps ask the "GigaPixel Users Group"?

I have seen the same question in the past 48 hours. As Jerry said ALL cameras today have sensors with lots of megapixels.

As far as I know there is not yet a camera capable of Gigapixel, at least not one available to the general public. Short of that I guess you can stitch 20 of those images from a 50MP cameras and get a Gigapixel image. As far as computer is concerned I thin a high end desktop would do. It like opening 20 of the images from a Canon 5DSR at the same time.

It is an odd expression these days, since all digital photography is at the level of megapixels, meaning the images are constructed of millions of pixels. So, unless somebody is trying to use 'Megapixel Photography' as a brand name for a business or some equipment, the term would just mean "digital photography."

Not odd, just a typo. It was corrected above.
