Amazon does operate their own company "warehouse" where they sell used merchandise, often items that have been purchased and then returned right after purchase. They will list the condition, any scratches or other damage, and the price is often very favorable. I have bought two Tamron lenses (including the 150-600 G2) with excellent results. Of course there is no six year warranty, and it's hit or miss as to what they might have in stock on any given day. To see if the item you're interested in is available from the warehouse, click on the "other sellers" or "used and new" link on the product page (different pages use different terminology). The warehouse listing if there is one will usually be the first one on the used page.

I am just about ready to purchase a Canon 24-105mm lens. I wasn't looking for a used lens but found a few for sale at great prices at Amazon, I am just a little afraid to do this. Has anyone bought used from Amazon and have you been happy with your purchase? How can you tell if a used product is from the gray market? Will Amazon tell you if they are if I ask? Thank you in advance for your response.

I've bought used from Amazon with no problems, including lenses and cameras. Same experience as eBay, B&H, and Adorama. But for new I'd likely stay with B&H or Adorama.

Below is Amazons guarantee regarding purchases from vendors using Amazon, not from Amazon itself. In my experience they really do protect the customers and as long as the purchase process is done within the Amazon system the buyer will be fully protected.

"A-to-z Guarantee

Place your merchant order through the Amazon.com Shopping Cart and your purchase is protected by the A-to-z Safe Buying Guarantee. Amazon.com automatically transfers your payment to the merchant so you'll never need to pay a merchant directly. Our A-to-z Safe Buying Guarantee covers both the delivery of your item and its condition upon receipt..."

Hey, Gammy, Happy New Year. Go for it!! I have purchased both Gray and Used via Amazon and have always been pleased with what I got. My SX60 was Gray and it is a wonderful camera and was on sale at $130 under a new one's price. Most recently was my ZS60 which was purchased Used, and while it was not in an original box the camera looked brand new. Works fine, and was almost $120 less than a new camera price. With Amazon's 30 day return policy, which I have used several times, I feel I can buy with no fear in case I am not happy with what I get.

Just a Grandpa's opinion to consider along with all the others.

I recently purchased a manufacturer's refurbished unopened box lens on eBay from a seller with 100% positive feedback. The lens sells for $300 new but I was able to buy it outright for $125. It came with a one year U.S.A. warranty and looks and operates like it was brand new. You may want to check out eBay for a similar offer to the one on Amazon. Another great site to buy or sell is fredmiranda.com You can purchase gear from photo enthusiasts with excellent positive feedback. I have used this site often without a problem. Good luck.

Rest assured with Amazon. Yes, many actual sellers, but when purchased through Amazon they cover the item. I have received several items through the years that were not as I thought they should have been and Amazon covered them with replacements or refunds. Be careful that when buying less expensive items that the shipping and possible return shipping is not more that the item is worth. Check it out fully when it arrives!
Also be careful of the descriptions, a few vendors will describe an item like it is name brand but when you receive it, it's a knock off.
"With strap" - whose strap? I bought a set of lens caps, Imprinted with "NIKON logo" on the front, that turned out to fit, but not from Nikon. OK for a low cost not critical item, but wouldn't be for something like a lens or body.

I purchased a 24-105L lens on Amazon recently. Brand new in white box. Asked question about use and warranty. It came with a camera and the buyer did not need it. It had US Warranty and I registered with Canon. Great price! Most everyone does their homework and do not require for Amazon to know anything about photographic equipment.

What difference does it make? If it's a used lens, it's probably beyond warranty anyway. The important thing about it would be the shape it is in!!

If the price is right and the lens is in good shape, what is the difference? As good as eBay.
Amazon stands behind whatever you buy on its site.
