It's supposed to warm up a great deal by Monday. The lowest here so far has been 4. At least we know it's short lived!

That's a good thing!!! The temps here might actually rise next week by me as well.... this is just much too cold to enjoy anything.

Nice pics! I had heard of Blowing Rock NC but not ever sliding rock.

Thats not the sliding rock i'm familiar with, are you sure you didn't get it mixed up with something else??

Haven't seen these scenes since my college days. Actually used to snap-off those dangling ice cycles to drink while driving along on the BRPW. Sliding Rock is much more "tourist friendly" than it was when I slid down in cut-offs. And for sure, Looking Glass Falls is impressive whatever the season. Thanks for the memories. Happy New Year.

Blowing Rock is a town a good ways from here. Sliding Rock is just a rock out cropping. It's on 276 just outside of Brevard NC going from 64 to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Kids have been sliding on it for probably 100 years. There was nothing built there when I was a kid and they've since put a bath house, walkway, parking lot, added a lifeguard (people have gotten hurt pretty badly there) and a charge. It's packed with tourists all summer.

Funny you should mention the ice cycles. The other day a couple of kids in front of me stopped in the middle of the road, one got out, grabbed an ice cycle and hopped back in the car. About a mile down the road he opened his window and threw it out. Guess it was a little cold for him! Gave me a good laugh! I used to take my boys up there a lot.
