Does any one know of a flatbed scanner that will do 4 x 5 film? I have an Epsen v500 but it will only scan to 120 film. I am not interested in a super expensive one and second hand is fine.
Many thanks,
Brett
If it will do 120, why won't it do 4x5 if it can scan an 8-1/2x11 sheet of paper???
Do you have the scan area set to 120 film size? Can you reset the scan area to 4x5?

When scanning film or other transparencies, the platen is removed. I have a V500 and you can't scan 4x5" or anything wider than 2.5".

Take a look at the Epson V750.
If you can't find any that are affordable, there are some videos on scanning 1/2 at a time and stitching.

Did not know that. Thanks!

Another way for larger films. Use a digital camera and a light box with tripod to photograph 4x5, 5x7, 8x10 negative or transparency. But the scanner's software sure helps on reversing the colors from a Color Negative.

OP: "I am not interested in a super expensive one..."
$1,388 would qualify as "super expensive."

Epson V850 does up through 8x10 with most excellent results.
There is a lower limit where quality suffers. Like saving on a poor quality cheap lens and having nothing but crappy photos.

I have an old "Epson Perfection 3170 Photo" that I picked up off the shelf at Goodwill. It uses plastic holders for the various film and slide sizes SOOOOOO I took heavy cardboard and made holders for the sizes that were missing. Works well, cost not much and works with Windows 10.

Compared to a $25,000 drum scanner?
I have a canons can 8400.
It scans 120 as yours does - but based on other responses it MAY use a different system.
It uses holders for 35mm neg, slides, and 120 negs. There is no interlock to tell the scanner which size you're using - seems like you could make a carrier for 4x5

Scan in 2 passes then stitch the 2 images together. Problem solved.
That's my WAG.

Simple answer: A piece of paper is front-lit. To scan a negative it has to be back-lit. The backlight source on the
V500 is only large enough to cover a 120 negative strip.
