Your 24-105 is a nice walk around if you're doing street photography, mine has served me well. Depending on the depth you want to get into for portraits, I bought the new Canon 85mm and am quite pleased with the shots so far, add others as you see fit. Macro - I bought the Canon 100mm and though I haven't really done many macro shots I'm happy with the results.

Of course opinions are like the noses we all have that point in all directions. Enjoy your 5D mkIV.

Happy shooting

Really you do not need another lens, the 24-105 is the best.

My suggestion is not to buy any lenses. Use the camera as is for a while then you will know what you want to add. 24-105mm would cover a very good range. I think more than 90% of my pictures are within that range.

I totally agree! Good advice. In all my travels more than 90% of my pictures were within the 24-105mm range. Shoot for awhile and see what you really need. ....George

I don't think we can help yet. What kind of pictures do you take or want to take. Do you need a macro, wide angel or telephoto

For a newbie that might be the right answer. This member is moving up from a 60d with APSC lenses. Maybe if people read what was actually asked, could provide helpful suggestions. Just saying.

Exactly because the OP is an experience photographer he/she would know what kind of lenses are needed. We don't know the OP we can't do a better job of saying which lenses are good for the OP. Also because the OP is experienced then reading the camera manual is sufficient to learn about the new camera. In fact I wonder why the OP even ask the question.

Ahhhh I don’t know. Maybe because this is a photo forum and that is where you ask photography related questions? I could be wrong though.

What lens for Canon 5DIV ?
It depend lot of what you do with your camera. This is heavy frame as it is pro level lenses, If you travel and/or hiking a lot this camera gear it is work to carry with you.
This camera with three lens will weigh on you back around 26 Lb plus tripod. Canon less expensive 4.5-5.6 glass speed give less weight and cost , But ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Canon 5D line is not best on it ISO, noise will show at easy, fast glass lens will help you a good bit in low light, but there is price to pay.
I use Canon 5D mark III in my studio and I love it.
On studio , Canon EF 85 mm 1.8 prime and EF 70-200mm 2.8 and some case Canon 24-70 2.8. This trio is probably the best ever made with any company in the world.
Now, if you shoot architecture images you need as well wide angle Canon 16-35mm2.8. ( anything wider will blow out to much, my opinion only)
Now, if you shoot macro 1-1 you can save & and get Tamron EF 90 mm 2.8 prime.
Now, if you shoot on to wildlife 100-400mm fast glass with 1/4 extender to get it up to close on 600mm.
Note :You will loose on lens speed with the extender, if you have 4.5 lens on it best it will be ~ 5.6 but use of this lens with extender it will be most of the time with good day light.

-Many of the people in here recommend good lens < BUT many of the recommended lenses overlap on it MM length> that is totally waste on your $ . For casual shooter Canon 24-105mm maybe all you'll need.
-If you planning lot of travel, or shoot on the street shots, today-days mirror less cameras as the Sony alpha line, or a front runner full frame super camera Sony7r give you brake on weight and size and ISO you will love .

The question on which/what to buy is one of the most common type of question around here. I can understand a beginner who doesn't know anything so he/she asked so we would have to try to guide the beginner. However, picking equipment is personal and nobody can really suggest the right equipment for you except you yourself.

What a wonderful gift. You have just recieved, in my opinion, the best body Canon makes for general photography. Re the lenses, the suggestion about taking advantage of the 24-105 initially and deciding later about additional lenses is good advise. Re learning the body, go slowly, becoming familiar with the features you find essential. The menus for high end cameras like this can be daunting initially, keep it simple. Artie Morris, Birds as Art, has just completed a 5DIV guide available for I believe, $50. You may find it helpful.

But you have every right to ask, even if you are not a beginner. You will not be punished for skipping threads you don’t like. Did you know that?

To me one can post anything but I am just wondering why the OP even ask. Such a question yield no results. You can see a bunch of answers but still I don't think it would help the OP in making decision.

How do you know? Maybe the op reading all the replies will realize what she needed to get out of them.

Not everyone is perfect like yourself sir. Accept that others are not like you and let them be. How about trying to improve your photos artistically sir? That should keep your mind off of what other people are doing for a few decades, right?

For Christmas I received a new Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera with a 24-105mm lens. Could someone recommend additional lenses for this camera & any tips about using this camera? Unfortunately my last camera; Canon 60D lenses aren't compatible with this camera.

OK here we go first get a 300mm Nikon with 2,8 and then you will discover it wont work on that body.

Not a problem. Just trade it in for a Nikon 3000 or 7000 series and then you will have a fantastic foto set up.

I am having fun with you but I am a nikon man "Nikonman44" decide what you really enjoy shooting and then get the lens that will perform that function.

A tip, see if you can borrow or rent what you think you want before chunking out big bucks to decide later you really did not want or need it.

Happy new year and keep shooting

Welcome to full frame. Tell us what you like to shoot. Money is your primary factor. Don't opt for a cheap lens with high quality IV. That's like putting regular gas in a high performance car. All my lenses on my III are Canon L level. Other brands fix but i like to stay in the family. Most of these start at a grand and go close to three. if you need an f/2.8 vs a F/4.0 for speed, add a few more $$$. My favorite that I use for birds and distance in general is the 100-400 L II, close to two grand. If more reach is needed the 1.4 III or 2x extender is another $400+.

Similar variations within wide angle.

Good luck!!!!

Now thats good advice. Use what you have and enjoy it. If you start finding a need for a different lens, look for what you think you are really wanting to get. rent or borrow first then decide to invest for long term.
