I currently have a Canon S5 IS (I know it's old) and am thinking of getting something newer. What would be a good upgrade form this one but not too pricey?
I'm not looking for a pricey camera just an upgrade from the S5 IS.
I got the canon rebel Ti3 I can let you have it but you have to pay shipping from Evans GA.
Here is a chart showing the evolution of that series. The SX60 HS is on sale at B&H right now for $429, free ship no tax.
I'm a real fan of these Canon cameras. I had an S5, then upgraded to SX20, then to SX50 which my wife carries now since I upgraded to the SX60. Terrific "travel cameras."
Competitors would be Nikon Coolpix B700 or Panasonic Lumix FZ80, about the same price.

This would be all well and good if my old eyes could actually read this chart.

Can you say where you got that chart?
I've had 2 SX50's and 2 SX60's at one time. I've liquidated all of them but 1 SX50. There has been talk of a rumored SX70 but to date there hasn't been much feedback with that release. Refurbished SX50's were going for $150.00 at their prime and are still sought as an inexpensive bird camera. Really hard to beat at that price point. RAW files from these cameras have to be carefully managed in post otherwise they fall apart quickly.
These bridge cameras are snubbed especially by those with higher end gear. I personally like them. They sit along side my APS-C, APS-H and full frame rigs.
