Prairie Sentinel with a super moon

Hi All
On the way home on the 31st of this December, before the drunken rush began, and while the sun was just setting, I worked up another prairie sentinel which is not part of the spoken of series, but done at the spur of the moment. To the south of St.Paul while driving home, I discovered the moon rising above an elevator a long way off the highway I was driving and quickly found an exit to a country road that was in line with the elevator and the moon, and worked my way to it until I got into a position as you, see then drove back and forth until the size of moon worked out to a size that I felt right with the scene and this to work with lens I had with me. Also the alpenglow was dying. The big problem in Minnesota on that night was -15 below and wind chill near -30, after about two minutes of shooting I was almost convinced I was going to die so I fled to the car and proceeded home. This is what I came up with, with modest work. I hope you like it.
Thanks for looking. RBorud

Gorgeous photo, rborud! What a fantastic foreground subject you found.

I'm so jealous because although I try to get the full moonset at sunrise, I am often thrwarted by clouds, especially in winter. The only time I saw this cycle's full moon was 10 minutes from my balcony, although it was 25 degrees above zero

The download is much brighter and more colorful. Be sure to use srgb color space for online use (that's usually the culprit here, though not always).

Many thanks for your continuing inspiration!

Thanks Linda Damm that night was cold, and I always use sRGB, though I have noticed UHH is not always consistent in various iterations of an image, or is it just me. RBorud

Maybe it’s the blue hue of the photo but that sure does look cold!! And I know it was cold. I pretty much hybernated all weekend due to the cold. We had -21 for low and -44 wind chill. I never left the house. I’m glad you were able to get out and glad you were able to get this photo without freezing to death doing it.

I can attest to how cold it can get when shooting in the winter. I remember a sunday pre dawn in Brooklyn walking out onto the Brooklyn Bridge to get the early morning still cold and clear air. The price was that I almost froze out over the middle of that river. Nothing as cold as what you describe here; but cold none the less. Congratulation on a nice shot made under very trying conditions. I also applaud your efforts to attain the vantage point you got. Well done.

Sorry deer2ker I try to keep one glued to me all the time. This shot was a lucky but painful one I must say. RBorud
