Now I know the quality of the pictures isn't the greatest, but I wanted to share my walk with Hedgehoggers from around the globe today.
Now some of you are saying "That's not an elk" and you would be correct.

Nope, no elk that way, just Deer Lodge Mountain.

Ahh, there's some elk. There were actually a few hundred of them and they were stretched out along a hillside and gulley.

I couldn't get them to pose for a group shot, so you'll have to put up with random bunches.

Although it was cold, the sun reflecting off the snow made a lot of heat. Here some cows are enjoying sunbathing.

Oops, busted! One saw me, the others stood up, but didn't know where to look.

Some down below stood up when the sunbathers stood, but by staying still, they all calmed down and went back to enjoying the afternoon.

My path up was on the left and back on the right. The elk were all on the other side of the hill.

Later in the day, I went back and the elk hadn't moved too far.

Enjoyed viewing the series!!

They come down close to Boise, Idaho in the winter too, especially since so much of their range was burned two years ago in the Pioneer fire. It's lovely to see them, and they look just about like they do in your pictures. Lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Mark (?), excellent set of photos and your narrative made it enjoyable rather than just a set of photos.

Great set. Good narrative too!
My kind of images. I would love to live where I could take a walk and find some elk. No bulls, other than a spike.
I know what you mean Kristen. The good thing about those fires is that they allow food supplies to grow for the critters after a while.

Thanks Greg. I always like to add some words just to explain my actions. Otherwise, people would look at the pictures and say, "WTF was this guy thinking"
Thanks for coming along on my adventure.
