I love the data accompanying the photos because I read this forum on my phone. I don't have the time otherwise. Having the data, for some, not all, of the photos presented is convenient. For those that don't find it useful and waste their time complaining about it, I'm glad you have nothing better to worry about.

A response to another post I submitted led me to this question. One of the folks who replied to the other post opined that the print is the final product and all that matters. I tend to agree.

So, let’s consider the posts within the gallery, or other sections that contain photographs, the final product. Why are so many insistent on listing the camera, lens, settings, etc.?

I can understand if it were a tutorial based solely on a particular camera, a particular setting, etc. However, those photographs are not. The photographs presented are for show and not lessons. So, why the insistence?

I personally am here to share and learn about our mutual hobby. It doesn't matter to me one way or another weather people post their cameras, lens or whatever. Can't we all just get along?(as Rodney once said). Lets just all enjoy learning and sharing together, especially the fantastic photos so many talented post here. Just my opnion.:o)

Why would you care about anyone else’s EXIF? I don’t care about yours. I care about your *images* that reach out, grab me, and tell me something! I don’t care how you communicate. The message is more important than the medium.

It’s highly unlikely that your settings would educate me, or anyone, without the context of being there at the time of exposure.

I DO occasionally look at my EXIF data to figure out what went right or wrong with a file. But it’s always in reference to what I experienced at the point of photography.

So, what is wrong with my example???

Are you not intrigued with what others are able to do with high ISO if they have the right equipment???

I have need for high ISO and I read reports and check out test to find the camera that suit me. There is no need to see the EXIF of someone's pictures. Same thing for shutter speed and aperture. I would know what affects they have.

That's great for you. I wasn't willing to try high ISO until I saw it being used; apparently that is true of others, based on the number who still recommend large constant aperture lenses for shooting sports. I have to see the settings to understand current trends and usage.

Oh you're talking about trends and for that you definitely need the information. I don't care about trends as I don't care about what others do.

If I didn't care about trends I'd still be saving for a constant large aperture lens instead of for a KP

You wouldn’t be here if you truly didn’t care about what others do.
