The D500 is a wonderful camera and really shines for fast action shooting with its fast focusing and huge buffer. The D500 can be used for landscape shooting. The Fuji XT2, which I own, is fast focusing and is a good camera for general photography and great camera for landscapes. I am primarily a landscape shooter and use the 10 to 24 with wonderful success. The most important consideration if you hike for landscape shooting is weight. The Fuji XT2 is considerably lighter than the Nikon D500. Lens quality is a critical to a camera system. I shot Nikon full frame for many years and there variety of lenses is both plentiful and of good quality. The Fuji lenses quality rival Nikon however the lens selection is more limited, however, Fuji lenses cover the full gamut of the focal range and many of their lenses offer image stabilization. Finally, the Fuji XT2 is a fun camera to shoot with its raised dials similar to film cameras and its wide and clear view finder that shows you the histogram before you shoot.

Mostly agree with your statements. Skyking stated that Nikon has 280 lenses. Wikipedia states over 400 lenses available in F-mount. But in that number there are numerous duplicates! Nikon's web site lists 13 lenses in the 17/18mm-XXXmm range, lots of duplicate lenses! I'm not saying there aren't more lenses available for DSLRs, I'm saying that many of the mirrorless companies are starting to catch up in the lens department. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have both the Fuji X-T2 and the Nikon D500. Both are great cameras. If you can't find enough useful lenses out of the "34" that are available for the Fuji, maybe a different hobby is appropriate.

Right. Unless you need a lens that Fuji doesn’t make at this point, go canikon.

Interesting comment. Unless you are a pro, virtually anyone could get by with the lenses that Fuji makes. Even most pros could. You would have to be in a very specialized type of photography not to be satisfied with Fuji's lens selection. Also, Fuji continues to add to their already stellar list of lenses.

I was being sarcastic. All 4 mirrorless brands have enough lenses.

You are one smart guy! ;~) I should have been smarter and looked at your systems.
Not only that but smaller and lighter!

Go for the D500; much more strongly built, and better for your purpose. I have a D3, and the fuji. Take your pick, But I know which I would go for !
Isn't a D500 specialized for 'action', though?? I would think a D7200 would make much more sense, considering what the OP shoots and the lenses he currently has.

It just has the best focusing system, but it will do everything else, just as well.

The angry photographer 0n U-tube claims the AF is faster on XT-2 than Nikon D500. Not sure how test was made. For myself, I have XT-2

Even if it was faster, it can’t match the d500 in tracking or keepers.

Would the fuji XT2 be a viable option for the d300 replacement or stick with the d500 ?
The XT2 purchase would be with battery grip and 18-55 kit lens and maybe 50-200 lens,am waiting for the
Fuji 8-16mm lens due early in 2018.Just because i have seen in forums that the 10-24 has issues
Also i am 6 foot 250 and can carry the nikon kit but really leaning towards XT2. Thoughts ??
Thanks Ron
First off, I am deeply into Nikon right now, but if I had to do it over again, I would go with the Fujifilm XT-2. I really like the design of the top mounted controls, the EVF and the lens performance. One other selling point is that Sigma is forecasting a line of Fuji compatible lenses.

Please advise of your sources of this "forecast". Many thanks.

I’ve seen it a few times mentioned in YouTube videos when a Sony body would be reviewed like the new A7III

At least you've taken the trouble to respond .... and thanks for that. The fella who made the comment has made it here on this forum a number of times since late last year. Each time I've seen him do it I've politely asked for his sources, but with absolutely no response from him. Perhaps "foreigners" outside of the good ole US of A don't warrant a response !
My reason for asking, and I've noticed one or two others have also, is that nowhere have I found any such suggestion ...... not on any Sigma websites, Fuji user websites / forums, dp review etc, etc. Nothing at all to back up his suggestion credibly. There is plenty (and good, solid reasons) to find that Sigma DON'T intend to make lenses for Fuji X-Series !!
As a Fuji user I don't watch lots of Sony YouTube videos ....... no need ...... but still am sceptical about Sigma's "supposed" intentions. Can you point me towards any YouTube videos that back this up?
Like me, don't you find it somewhat strange that, given the size of Sigma and their activities in the lens market as quality 3rd party option providers, and given the importance to the world market of any introduction by them of "lenses for Fuji", that there would be announcements in the press, on Sigma's news website, on Fuji's world-wide websites, on sites like Fuji Rumours (which is often extremely accurate and tends to know of such events well in advance)?
Who are these YouTubers, and fellow UHH member, who seem to know stuff which no-one else knows of? I'm interested to know !
Until then I am intensely sceptical !
