Generally happy with a Sony RX 10 for travel but with kids the write speed/cycle time misses the moment for the perfect smile/gesture too often. Wondering if the A 6000 + series would correct/improve that. I used my Nikon D610 with pop up at Christmas and it was a chore and distraction. Thanks.

Forget about pop-up flash. Before you buy a new camera, buy an external flash for your D610 such as the Nikon SB-700. I often shoot one shot immediately followed by one or two more with my SB-700 on my D90 or D800 and it does a great job. The second shot matches the lighting of the first and the second shot can be a little dark, but a minor exposure adjustment in Lightroom or Photoshop always produces great results that match the first two exposures.

Also, the high intensity output has allowed me to light large buildings at night without additional lighting. The attached photo was taken with my D90 and my camera mounted SB-700 hand held at 1/60 second, f4.0 ISO 800. The building's exterior lighting only reached certain areas of the structure and without the flash, the brickwork would not show. Note that the top of the tower that is not illuminated by the building's lighting is over 100 feet away from my flash and enough light is reaching it from the SB-700 to differentiate it from the moonless night sky.

Not sure that I understand your question, but if you are having a buffer issue, the a6500 has a buffer sufficient to handle quite a few shots (the number depending on whether you're shooting JPEG or RAW) on continuous shooting. This means virtually no delay between shots, so you'd likely get the momentary smile/gesture, especially if you set the continuous shooting mode on medium or high speed. The a6000 also handles multiple shots well, but has a smaller buffer. Not sure where the a6300 stands.

I realized that I misunderstood your question. What brand and write speed is your SD flash memory card? If your SD card write speed is too slow, your camera's buffer will empty and sit and wait for your SC card to supply it more data. That will slow down your camera and, if you are shooting video, can even cause the picture and sound to go out of sync. I would strongly recommend that you get a flash memory card with a write speed of no less that 95 Mbs such as the SanDisk Extreme cards.

Thanks everyone for your help. Great shot of the building. Yes, I think the issue may be partly card speed and I will upgrade them but I'm thinking the A6500 may be the real answer. Thanks again.
