In first shoot sessions with this newly acquired "magic camera" doing brackets, have found that the base + and minus adjustment improperly and without asking resets, usually to between +1 and +2.5. Of course don't notice this until doing a review. Why and may I be someway be using a set up that asks the camera to do this??

Do you have some kind of automatic bracketing going on, or is this happening with just one exposure at a time?

There is a complete bracketing menu in your setup that allows you to adjust these sorts of things.

Out of curiosity, have you read the manual, or as least referred to the manual on bracketing?

Exactly as Bob said. Why do you call the D850 the "magic camera?" No camera is "magic" and although the new models like the D850 are very advanced technological cameras the "magic" depends entirely on the operator.
Enjoy your new tool.

It is all explained very well in the manual. Nuff said.

Why not just shut this site down and put up a big sign - READ THE MANUAL. That is not a proper response to a person who came here for help. If you can't add a positive response, then move on. Not everyone is experienced and I thought that is what this site was for. Beginners questions, intermediate questions, sharing info etc. Or is it just a place for grumps to demean those "below their intellect" and skill levels. If we were all as smart as the non-helpers, we would not be here? What do you consider a reasonable question to ask here. How to make your own rocket fuel? Or fix your own shutter? It is really getting frustrating to see the first response be... "It's been covered many times here jerk." Or, "read the Manual." Not everyone has been here forever and these are fair questions. If you don't want to help, then move on to next thread and keep your snarks in the bag.

Some of you are like a bunch of vultures sitting on the fenced waiting for a newby to come into your "private" territory so you can pounce on their unsuspecting naivety.

While you’re logged on, click on “User List” (top of this page), type in “Steve Perry” and send him a PM. He appears to be the resident D850 guru, and somehow seems to find the time to help. Good luck!

And they call themselves photographers, but when do they actually go out and press the shutter?

They are a bunch of old goats who are bitter about life and more importantly bitter, that no matter how well versed they are technically, they are not capable of taking a shot that is not a snapshot. So they take their frustration out on innocent newbies.

I’m sure their parents would be very proud of them if they were still alive.

Why not just shut this site down and put up a big ... (show quote)

So did you answer the question or just make two posts to complain?

While I have no objection to the question, the OP is asking someone to retype what somebody already did -- in the manual. The manual may even have pictures of the menu.

What 'button' do I go to on this web site to find that information. Or, to put it another way,how do I find out personal information such as a poster's age, so I can lump people who reply into certain groups?

If it's starting at +1 and going to +2.5, you may have some exposure compensation set in (like +1). Make sure exp comp is set to zero and try it again :)

In addition, when you turn the dial on the back of the camera (main command dial) clockwise, it will add bracketing shots only in one direction (all positive or negative). When you go counterclockwise, it will evenly distribute the bracketing either side of zero (or, on either side of where you have exposure comp set).

Also, you have to go back and zero out auto bracketing in order for it to stop doing it.

Hope that helps / makes sense.

No, I did not answer the question. Just complaining. Just hate to see person kicked to the curb and told to go in the corner and read.
I doubt my rant will change anything. The boo birds will be back tomorrow.

All you need to do is read replies on UHH. They tell you themselves how long ago they started to press the shutter.

I mean I’m guessing 1939 in your username stands for the year you were born for one.

UHH is a very old crowd. Nothing wrong with that, but to think otherwise with the amount of posts you have is ignorance.
