I am beginning the process of deciding on a post-processing program. I've narrowed down my choices to Affinity vs Luminar vs On1.
I use a Mac. I don't need a cataloguing function.
If you have experience in these programs, please weigh in.
Thank you !

I use Affinity and like it. I have no experience with the other 2. Serif recently put out an Affinity workbook for Affinity Photo. I got it as a present for me and it arrived last Wednesday. So far I find it useful except it is a hard backed book and does not stay open very well without assistance.

No thought about Lightroom or Photoshop? If not I would go with Luminar 2018.

I recently purchased Luminar 2018. I love the result I am getting and find the program very user friendly. Someone said the support is lacking, but I have found the company very responsive to a few inquiries I have sent them.

I am new at this. But affinity seems to work well for me now that I am beginning to get used to it. Barely scratching the surface on what it will do but so far that has been enough for me.

Put me down for another vote for Luminar. Very happy with the software and there are plenty of videos on Youtube and the Skylum (renamed from macphun) to learn from. Liked the software so much also got Aurora HDR software from them.

I’m trying out Luminar as a replacement for LR, and I like it so far.

I have been thinking about Luminar, but want to have a program with Digital Asset Management (DAM). Does Luminar have that?

Not yet. I've read things on the internet that they are going to provide this feature in 2018. We'll see.

For correct answers go directly to the Luminar site.

IMHO, it is more important to pick one and learn it well than it is to try and find the "best".

My other HO is that it may be more important to look at the scope of learning and training choices. Are there books? Are their third party training sites? How many YouTubes are there?

My personal example is video editing. I fought with it for a year. Finally I picked one that was on sale, had a Lynda.com course and stayed focused. Looking back, it was a wasted year because of searching for the best instead of getting something done.

As usual, I jumped before doing any research.
I did go to their site and got my answer. Although it was vague, they did say that DAM will be available in the new year. One wonders when. Also, the thought of using a version one of any software makes me nervous.

Luminar is amazingly quick. It lets you see a dozen ways you can change your photo in real time. Affinity is more like a Photoshop clone - there are a million things you can do, learning which are appropriate for a particular photo might take a lot of trial and error. My goto program is still Photoshop - Once mastered, it's the standard.

If I were going to choose one program - I would select it based on the computer skills as well as photographic skills. Luminar at the easy end, along with Lightroom, Affinity at the more difficult end along with Photoshop.

I use Luminar 2018 to my total satisfaction. Their Customer Service is excellent. Check out Anthony Morganti's Youtube videos on how to use it.

For my sins, I have also installed Affinity on my iPad. The UI is not dissimilar to Luminar and that makes it easier to use.

I use Affinity Photo. I am pretty new to post processing and didn't want to buy into the Photoshop subscription.

Now that I have been using Affinity Photo for a few months I like it a lot. The new workbook is helpful. Also they provide a ton of Youtube videos.

As this product matures, there will be more and more online support for it. UDEMY.COM has some tutorials, for example.

I am not familiar with Luminar or On1.

So, like bsprague says, pick one and get started. If it were me, I would pick Affinity Photo.
