I had the opportunity to shoot a friend’s Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens a couple of weeks ago and I’ve decided that was a mistake! Now I love the lens, but there is no room in the budget for his GAS attack.
I had to rearrange the candles after the first shot. One of the candles didn’t transmit the light through the wax very well.
I would have liked more time to work on the DOF, but I only had five minutes with the lens.
Great bokeh! I’ve been looking into getting this lens too. I’ve been wanting a dedicated macro lens and this one seems to be the one everyone suggests.
It's a really nice lens. I see them available used from time to time on various photography sites and eBay so you might pick one up at a lower price if inclined to buy used.
I'm assuming that this wasnt the "L" lens?? If so, I've seen a few of them on sale on here on occasion. I have the L lens and love it. refurbished is also a thought.

It was the "L" lens. That's why there is no room in the budget.
The non-L is essentially equal in IQ, but does not have image stabilization. Cheaper too. Just whispering some sweet, sweet temptation into your ear...

You devil. You're going to get me in trouble with the misses.
