John Gordon in British Columbia was a professional photographer and photo judge. I asked him how he ended up picking the winner? One thing he said was, "If the photo didn't hold my attention for more than three seconds, it was dismissed!" The Three Second Rule.

I use this rule when I go through my photos. Into the trash can, if less than stated.

Do have any quotes to share?

A quote from my teacher the first day of school many, many, years ago. “How many photograprers does it take to take 1 Photograph. The answer is 101. 1 to take the picture and 100 to tell you how you SHOULD have taken it”

I do not know who to attribute it to, but "compose before you expose" is my favorite quote/saying.

"Consulting the rules of composition before taking a photograph, is like consulting the laws of gravity before going for a walk."

Not a photographer but a quote by Mark Twain:
“You can’t depend on your eyes, when your imagination is out of focus.”

I don't know where I heard it or who said it, but, "Be aware of the background" has stuck with me.
