My response was not meant in a negative way. I was confused by the OP's enthusiasm as if he was evaluating a newly released camera. My intention was not to offend anyone.
No problem, however I can understand his enthusiasm for a camera that is 'new to him'. Most of us do get excited about new gear for our arsenals. I shall upgrade my ancient 5D MKII to the IV when the V is released. I should be able to afford it then.

Didn't he say he upgraded once every 5 years, and NOT every Christmas. Oh, and by the way since we are on the subject; MERRY CHRISTMAS!
But my camera is 4 years old this Christmas so next Christmas it's 5 years old.

No prob, Jake. Thanks for the note.
There's lots of stuff published about the 5D but having it side by side with my 7D is helping me justify the investment. Will try some side-by-side pics this afternoon.
I never got the 7D. I actually flipped a coin to decide between the 7D and the 60D. I got the 60D. I do have the 7D II which I like quite a lot. I bought the mk IV because I have an Sr and as nice as that camera is, it is not an everyday shooter. I really like my mkIV and even though I've had it about a year, I'm still reading the manual. Always something to learn.
Enjoy your new camera...
Good to hear of your experiences. Reading further into the book... Looks like Dual Pixel Raw features are so minute that only the other half of the pixel notices a difference. Will see what develops over time.
Ability to calibrate AF precisely for each lens has some potential, but that's only for auto focus anyway. Again, the the tracking features do look like they have some potential uses. I can imagine for sports and flying birds, which would be a big help.
Part of why I am making notes on this stuff is to help it last longer in my memory...
Remind me to take some practice shots at ISO 100,000+ ... Anyone have examples of something like that?
Picture Styles: If I read this right, they are presets that favor different settings. It looks like 'neutral' leaves things pretty much alone, to be adjusted in PP. Since I shoot mostly RAW that might be a good beginning.
WOW! I just realized that the led is a touch screen... that's handy. Might eliminate the possibility of the 3x viewfinder which places a piece of glass over the screen... but it's just an alternate to using the dials, I guess.
GPS tracking! I like that. In the past I have used a number of cell phone apps, including a couple that link to alltrails.com and such. When I was on an assignment with the BLM in the Mojave desert I was able to post some pics to Google Earth... this would make that so simple! Now if the GPS tracking can be linked to a live online map I could figure out where my camera is.

Those picture styles only work on jpeg files, not raw. But they do change the image you see on the rear screen, which is an in-camera jpeg.

Yes, I saw that. Several other functions can preclude each other... like AEB blocks the HDR mode.
I'm on page 239... zzzzz
Finished the book. lots can be ignored... details tomorrow.
It's the only camera HE has to compare it to.

You do realize this camera hit the street well over a year ago; I've had mine for about 1 year. Plus the camera you are comparing it to was introduced in 2009.
Congratulations! I have this camera and it is wonderful.
Will be interested to hear which autofocus setting you pick. Mine stays on case 2 pretty much all the time.
