Would like to buy a sturdy monopod that can also be used as a walking stick for hiking. Any recommendations would be welcome. Thanks.

I got this one from Amazon. I can use it at a museum that does not allow tripods. It has a rubber foot but also has retractable spike in the bottom, camera threads on top.

I use a Sirui P-224C (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Sirui+P-224C+Monopod) and am very pleased with it on both fronts.

I ended up getting the Sirui 2204x tripod that has a detachable leg that can be used as a light-weight carbon fibre monopod. Best of both worlds.

Check out the Leki Sierra: https://www.leki.com/us/trekking/poles/2660/sierra-speed-lock-2/. I like this better than a monopod because it really is a trekking pole.

It might be available on ebay or amazon for a better price.

Except, if I understand the OP, he is looking specifically for a Monopod - than can double as a walking stick. IOW, something on which he can also mount a camera.

Thank you, Hank. I think that maybe a trekking pole than can be used as a monopod is more sturdy, can be used with more weight, than a monopod that can be used as a trekking pole. By the way he (me) is a she.

Not everyone is aware that Leki makes a trekking pole with a camera mount. Clearly, you are not. I am, which is why I offered it as a suggestion to look into. BTW, Leki is one of the top outdoor / sports pole manufacturers in the world, and makes poles for a variety of outdoor activities.

Of course, even if you weren't aware, if you had actually gone to the link, rather than responding without thinking, you would have learned that you can - yes - mount a camera on this particular trekking pole.

Maybe it meets the OP's needs, maybe it doesn't. But I'm sure the OP is quite capable of making his or her own decision

You're welcome. I have the Sierra 1 (now out of production, though you might be able to find it online), but the Sierra 2 is supposed to be better, due to the improved locking system. I do a lot of hiking (in the summer anyway, winter is skiing...) in sometimes rugged terrain, and yes, I feel it is sturdier than my monopod in these situations.

I did actually go to the link, but didn't read it close enough. Please accept my apologies - I was not trying to be contentious, just made an honest mistake.

It works better as a monopod then walking stick. There are walking sticks that have a camera thread on top but won't take a pan head and have no feet to make it a pseudo tripod. You have to decide what your primary use is for.

Pro Master Monopod has the bottom as a spike and a screw out rubber bottom. The top has a strap for your hand like regular walking sticks. Also the mounting screw is reversible for a head mount or a camera mount. It is very light, expands to about 68" with 4 sections. I have traveled with this and the airport allowed it with my carry on camera pack. Very comfortable, cost me about $80.

You’re referring to the Leki Sierra?
