Oh, lovely, Susan ....

My goodness!!! ... That branch doesn't look like it'll hold that stork for long ....

Don't worry about the heron Chris - birds have hollow bones and a specially developed respiratory system [in addition to wings and feathers] which allow them to fly away! Those trees are like apartment complexes, with several nests in many!

Oh, it's a heron, is it, Susan?

So, what you're saying is - if the branch DID break from the weight, it'd just take off - right?

Here are a couple taken with my D7200 and AF-S 200-500mm 1:5.6E ED VR. As an avid amateur, this is my first long lens, beyond 200mm. So far, I love it.

Storks tend to be white and black, Herons come in various colors, patterns, sizes. They are also in different scientific "Orders" within the bird [Aves] "Class".

Of course! Think of it this way - if you had wings and the ground was falling out from under you, would you grab on or take off?

Interesting to read about:

It's true that our reds aren't as bright as the European reds, and (unfortunately) never get ear tufts either.

On the other hand, they are quite ferocious, chasing and giving the larger gray squirrels a hard time, successfully defending their feeders, and don't succumb to squirrel pox, so they are thriving and plentiful where I live.

Happy Christmas!

Yes, I agree, Mainer ... in fact - ALL squirrels are pretty ferocious, if you ask me ... VERY territorial ....

Glad they don't get the pox where you are, in Maine ... not sure whether I really care ... but, anyway ... glad they're thriving - so YOU can shoot them!!!!

Happy Christmas to you, too, Mainer ... hope you're having a swell Christmas Day!!!!

Some sort of bug is the most fun for me. The challenge of stalking and get good lighting is very satisfying.

I suppose it could be, Kervin ....
