I'm looking for a way to display, in the metadata, the name of the lens used for the image. The image accompanying this post is all the info presented about the lens, but I'm wanting to know WHICH 24mm lens was used. I know the data is available, because it shows in the 'Lens Corrections' dialog when that option is chosen.

Anyone know? Thanks.

Not sure, Bruce, but maybe the answer is here?

In the Metadata drop down menu select "EXIF and IPTC" and all of the lens data will be there. See the screen shot attachment below.

Agree... I keep mine set on EXIF & IPTC - lots of info is displayed along with the lens name.

You can also grab the metadata plugin from Jeffery Friedl's site that will display every bit of EXIF data within the image file.

Thanks, Mark! Much appreciated, but I had seen that article in my search for an answer. Still no joy.

Thanks Bill!! I'd love to know why yours displays it, and mine doesn't. :-/

Thanks FlyGuy!! As with Bill's response, I'd love to know why yours shows it and mine doesn't.

But, you have caused me to think through a couple things that I want to try. When I first got this lens and took the shot, then imported, in the 'Lens Correction' section, I could not get the lens to be identified (Sigma 24mm f/1.4 ART). I piddled around with it a bit, and suddenly the lens appeared in the Lens Correction area. But, this was AFTER the import, so it may be I can now re-import the image and get the name of it. I'll have to test that.

Thank you!!

UPDATE:
Nope, re-importing didn't do it. I'll need to go to Adobe with this, I guess. Google hasn't been much of a friend in this, so far.

As do I Don, but it just doesn't want to display. May have to try Jeffery's plug-in, but I really would like for LR to do it on its own. :-)

Thanks for the input.

Bruce:

FWIW - I also make use of a plugin called lenstagger which allows for easy lens name changes and adding other pertinent data such as lens serial number. I like to have my lens names as I want them :), but mainly add serial numbers of the lens used for the shot.

I may go this route, Don. I have found out there was a bug back in LRCC 2015.x.x where lens names were not properly handled. I would think that issue resolved by now with LRCCC. I kinda wanted to learn more about that issue, and how it was fixed, but my searches have not yet produced anything. :-/

Plus, it may be because it's Sunday, but I cannot find out how to get to Adobe Chat. :-/

The Adobe Lightroom CCC has some smart folks. https://forums.adobe.com/community/lightroom/lightroom-classic-cc

Adobe chat help is here: https://helpx.adobe.com/support/lightroom-cc.html

Thanks, Bill. Truly appreciated. It appears that Adobe support doesn't exist on Sunday, except in the forums and this issue has not been raised in the last 2 years, which would eliminate LR Classic. There was some sort of issue in 2015.x.x, but I can find scant info about it.

I created a topic in the forum. Hopefully a remedy will be forthcoming. Interestingly, in Lens Corrections, the lens is listed. The complete name. But it isn't getting propagated to the metadata for some reason.

I think I recall the issue a while back, which was why I started using lenstagger to get correct lens names and serial numbers into EXIF, I may not need it now to correct lens names, but I do add in my lens serial numbers still.

Anyway, I never found a reason the names went missing or were wrong for any reason

As I stated above, I may need to go that direction, Don. I just don't think I should have to. :-) I'm a bit stubborn in that way. Hopefully, someone in the Adobe Forums will come to the rescue.

I also have concerns about plug-ins of this sort. Those concerns may be unfounded, but I'd hate to install LensTagger and have it screw up the data in all of the images I've already cataloged. I contend that there's already an entry for this lens in the LR database, else it wouldn't appear in the Lens Correction adjustments. And, the fact that others see this data in their metadata tells me that there's a foreign key existing in the database to bring this info into the metadata. For whatever the reasons, that key value doesn't seem to be getting populated. I'll see what the Adobe Forum comes up with.

Thanks so much for your thoughts on this issue!!

Just got notification that the moderator approved my post.
