I'm not sure I'd trust 'Auto' anything in either PS or LR. I posted a number of "Why Your Photos May Look Like Crap" articles that compared setting the adjustments vs. Auto. Perhaps Adobe made some major improvement in the 'Auto' field.

Then again, it may be a good case of YMMV.

...I don't go there (to autoland) as a default, or even *think* about it, until I'm bamboozled by, say, a WB issue produced by cycling stadium lighting. Sometimes it's just the right thing! There are plenty of times I've punched the "auto" button both in LR and PS and been surprised by the outcome...just an option. YMMV, of course, Bob!

My Adobe CC updated. I did some checking and Classic got an enhanced "Auto" in the Develop Module.

The marketing text is well written!

Start your edits with Auto, which uses Adobe Sensei to intelligently apply adjustments ....... Adobe's Auto feature now uses advanced machine learning ......The underlying neural nets have been trained with thousands of professionally shot and manually edited photos to evaluate and correct an image, just like a skilled human photographer."

Shoot RAW, Import to LR, press Auto and get better than in camera JPEG???

What is it? Is it real?

Auto is a good place to START... But only as a 'start' to postprocessing.

It's not a matter of trust. I use "auto" as a starting point then adjust the sliders as needed for further refinement. Auto is also very useful if you are creating photos for social media or other online uses. In those cases good content and light are important, but not as critical as with more permanent uses.

Been using lightroom for a few years now. I always start my editing in the Develop Module under the Basic tab with “Auto”. It usually does a decent job to start with. I then fine tune the edits.
Have not used it since the new “Auto”, but look forward to it.

Users on another site have been posting about the new auto feature. So far the consensus is that its much much better than the previous Auto feature and is a very good starting point for making your adjustments. I've seen examples of raw images straight out of the camera only processed by the new auto feature in the latest version of Lightroom and the results looked extremely promising. The previous Auto feature in version 6 was mediocre to say the least.

It seems that most posting are writing about the OLD Auto button. The major point in the new upgrade to LR Classic CC this week is that the NEW Auto button works very differently from the OLD. Specifically it uses a high grade of "artificial intelligence" that Adobe brands as "Sensai".

Anybody "testing" the new version?

The new auto feature in Lightroom CC is said to be a significant improvement over the previous version. The images I've seen have been quite impressive, requiring minimal extra adjustment.

Today would be a good day to go back through some favorites, make Vertual Copies and see what happens with the new Auto button.

WOW! I did a dozen scenic RAWs from various trips. Each got very near a good goal requiring little adjustment for personal taste.

I just posted a RAW file and a 2nd "auto adjustment" from LR. I had to put the RAW in Google Drive. I posted a link. Not sure if this will work.

Adobe is doing the same thing that Apple and Nikon have been doing and that is to start abandoning the professional market that made them what they are and going strictly to catering to the amateur market. Get your ipads fired up to work the software that has been dumbied down for their use. Nikon has finally woke up; wonder how long it will take the others?

If you want to reply to me, do it privately. The admin has me blocked me from emails because on October 20, yahoo put an email from here into the spam folder. Their answer to that is to have a tantrum and block you (when this happens) from receiving emails for 10 days; kinda like in kindergarten when you were sent to the corner). Only I am still being blocked and they will not fix it; instead they keep coming back and telling me to do stupid things that don't work or exist as they claim. Multiple emails to them has me still blocked over a month later. Is this not discrimination?

Its not dumbing it down if the auto mode gives you a good head start in PP. It just saves time. You can still adjust everything manually. DXO PhotoLab is similar in that respect. With DXO I can finalize an image to meet my exact goals in half the time with it's very intuitive automation. Unless you've actually used it, don't dismiss it so quickly. The new auto feature in Lightroom CC is a completely different feature then the one in earlier versions of LR.

Sounds a bit like how DXO PhotoLab Elite works.
