Question? Is a refurbished Nikon 750 better than a new D500. I am thinking of switching over to the 750 for basketball mainly. What is your comments on this subject.
Thanks in advance.

Better for what?! If you are doing portraits of the players then the D750 may be better, if you are going for the action shots you may do better with the D500. If you believe full frame is always better than crop frame then the D750 is the one, if you believe a camera designed for speed and action regardless of it being crop frame then the newer, faster D500 is the camera you may want to consider.

If your shooting sports, I'd go with the D500 because it has a quicker burst.

I forgot to add, all my full frame cameras are Canon but for action shots I use my D500 far more than my 7D II.

...at my high school most of the basketball photographers are using prime lenses...with f1.8 or lower because of the lighting...usually a 50 or 85mm...one guy uses a Pentax 77mm prime with excellent results...his camera is the K3...and he only holds it in the vertical position...going to the 750 you give up the 153 focus points and the 10fps continuous shooting...but you do get full frame and better image quality...and yes better low light ISO...but...before changing cameras, consider renting the sigma 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM...it gives you F1.8 through the entire zoom range...just saying...

D500 has a better focusing system and is especially designed for action shots. But in terms of image quality the full frame D750 is better.

From a previous thread we already know that you are aware of the answer. What is interesting is how many others are not, and tell you the D500 is the right camera.

You can get noise free images from a D500 at ISO 2557. The D750 is noise free at ISO 4075, and wins hands down for basketball.

I don't know but a brand new D750 is less expensive than the D500.

Personally, I think low noise high ISO performance is more important for indoor sports than FPS (spray and pray). We’ve just had a thread where the OP was dissatisfied with the noise of the D500 at ISO 5000 for basket ball. I moved to a FF for this exact reason, and 5-6 FPS is plenty adequate if you pay attention to the flow of the game and time your shots appropriately. I’d choose the D750 every time.

I want to thank everyone for the comments and suggestions regarding the 500 vs 750. I love the 500 for sunny days but it's lacking at 3500 for my purposes. I do a lot of work for Maxpreps and they are very strict when it comes to degradation and noise.

The D750 will have a better dynamic range and far better in low noise at higher ISO's. It shoots bursts of 6.5 frames per second, while the D500 shoots 10. If you are one who relies on burst shooting then you may want to stick with the D500, but if you don't the D750 will serve you better in low light.

If you want to reply to me, do it privately. The admin has me blocked me from emails because on October 20, yahoo put an email from here into the spam folder. Their answer to that is to have a tantrum and block you (when this happens) from receiving emails for 10 days; kinda like in kindergarten when you were sent to the corner). Only I am still being blocked and they will not fix it; instead they keep coming back and telling me to do stupid things that don't work or exist as they claim. Multiple emails to them has me still blocked over a month later. Is this not discrimination?
The D750 will have a better dynamic range and far ... (show quote)

I'm the first to admit that the Administrators on this site frequently take actions that seem irrational. I've noticed, for example, how they move some of my photographic threads while allowing others that have little or nothing to do with photography (Brown truck or "I just bought this" threads are glaring examples) to remain in the main section. I think they are frequently motivated by the number of complaints they receive which is dumb in my view, especially since the advent of the "ignore" feature. I share your disgust. But it's their site.

The D500 has 10 fps. nice for action photography. Both have GROUP AUTO FOCUSING, the D500 has exceed 5 processor, the D750 has the older exceed 4 processor, ISO advantage also goes to the D500. Any more questions?

What? ISO advantage goes to the D500? Not if noise is an issue.

That is perhaps a typo? The ISO advantage is significant for the FX sensor on the D750.
