These are really precious shots, Vicki! I totally agree about the third shot. The broadside bird would either lose his tail or have his beak against the side of the frame if you tried to position them differently. I think it is perfect the way it is!

This time of year, with the cooler weather, they puff up a bit which I think makes them even more appealing - little round balls of fluff.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply Carol. I appreciate it.

As you probably know, small birds are a favorite subject of mine. Cute birds, nice perches, and wonderful backgrounds make nice pictures. These are among the best.

Rules may be for fools, but there might be one in the bunch who is a stickler for such things regardless of how the image turns out. I guess I was issuing a disclaimer of sorts.

Thanks so much for the very thoughtful reply Bill. I value your opinion.

Beautiful shots and beautiful little birds, Vicki. I love sparrows and wish we had more species of them here.

What I find interesting about this species is that I can travel within a few miles and see different subspecies in different locations. They don't seem to mix - or not that I've noticed. Maybe I'm missing something. They're cute little guys and fun to watch at the feeder or birdbath in the yard.

Thanks for taking time to look and comment Donna. It's always good to hear from you.

Well done, Vicki. Sparrows make nice subjects.

Thanks for the visit Ken. Sparrows are certainly plentiful. I'm always glad when they hold still long enough for some shots since they seem busy most of the time. Still, they're not as flighty as some of the other visitors.

My Gold Crowned Sparrows are back and willing to pose. The last in the series breaks some composition rules unless you break the image down into vertical thirds. Rules are made to be broken, and that shot called for this treatment I believe. See what you think.

Nice set Vicki.
