I upgraded from film to digital camera several years ago. I later upgraded to get more MP and then to get more features. I'm not intending to upgrade again until my current camera no long does what I need it to do. Unless, of course, I win the lottery.

My current DSLR is a Nikon D800, which I have had for 5 years. It still is doing what I want, so I don't really feel the need to upgrade it yet even though something newer is always attractive. I thought about it a bit when the D810 came out, and again now with the D850, but I am resisting GAS attacks to this point. Purchasing a new lens, one that I don't currently have such as the Nikon 200-500mm or Tamron 150-600mm G2 is more of what I would buy at this time.

Picked up a G2 150-600 a month ago and am impressed. Much better than the G1 IMHO and also better than the Sigma C in my own testing with my own D750 Body.

IIRC the D6xx, D7xx, and D8xx are FX
But the D5xx is DX

You're right. I wasn't recalling the existence of the 6, 7, and 8 series. And I left out the Dx, as well. All FX.

The 610 is an example of entry level
The 750 is an example of intermediate level
The 850 is advanced/professional level
The Dx is for people who want a digital version of an old film camera like the F100. It's built like a tank.

Ok so how would say... a D5600 compare to a 750?

What about the one without a number in its model name?

I think the last one was supposed to be Df since he referenced an old film camera.

How often do you feel the need to update your camera? (Lenses are for me a one time purchase) Why do you feel the need to buy the newest upgrades? How old is your current camera?

The only time you need to upgrade is when your camera no longer serves your needs. Avoid GAS.

How about if a new one just serves your needs better?

Who is going to supply product for those who buy used?

Money is only worth something when you spend it, otherwise it's just a piece of paper.

If I only bought things things that served my needs, I would have a dull, crappy life. At 65, I will buy some things that I don't need--just because.
I have earned my way and Life is short.

The D750 is superior in IQ, focus, ISO capability and is a full frame 24.3mp (FX) and can meter with old AI glass, and has a focus motor in the body if needed. The D5600 is a crop frame 24.2mp or DX.
