Thanks longshadow. I just took a look and it seems to be a very sturdy head. It a 10 lbs. weight capacity, should be enough to support my gear.

That is too complex for a mono-pod, even with a tripod footing...

Do you see yourself setting this up and be confident nothing will flip over?

I have learned more from you folks than I would have if I just read all the manuals out there. As far I'm concerned nothing beats hands on experience.
I have a Canon 7d MK II. The largest lens I'll be using is a Tamron 150-600 G2. I mainly shoot my granddaughter playing softball and not much else (So far). I also have a Sirui P-204 SR monopod. So here is my question: Since this monopod has the ability to tilt, and swivel would I need a head for it? I'm retiring in February and just want to get what I need before then.

I'm trying to keep the cost to around $125 max and the selection is huge.

Thanks for your help.

Hi the 7Dmkll is an excellent choice for sports shooting... I use a "MONO POD", for stability as well as panning for action shooting. The Tilt & Elevation ball head, is more used on a tripod for stills, in my studio. The mono pod with a panning head is all you need.

The OP's lens has a rotating tripod collar - there would be no point in flopping the whole lens/camera combination over for a vertical shot.

I've been using the monopod all along without any head, but with the new and heavier lens I feel that either a ball or a pan head will be an added tool.

Or an added inconvenience. (Take a look at a tilt head, you may be pleasantly surprised.)
Edit: A pan/tilt head would normally be the last choice for a monopod.

Necessary? No. Helpful at times? Yes.

I’m at the stage in my life that I’m not confident that I can stand without falling! If anything I am overly protective.

Thanks again.

Thanks Lee, I’m looking at the Sirui VH-10 which really looks good and has a very high weight cacacity.

It was directed at PHRubin, surmising that he had a tripod since he didn't care for the ball head for his application.
Correct, you can't effectively use a tilt/pan head on a monopod, not enough arms.

Yea, I don't have enough arms to use a tilt/pan head on a monopod!
I can't imagine anyone trying that...

You just need a tilt. No swivel required on a monopod. If you are looking at a Sirui head, the L10 requires an Arca-Swiss compatible clamp on the top of the monopod. The L20S has a standard 3/8-16 threaded socket. This is still within your budget. The L10 has a lower load capacity as well. I'd suggest you get the L20S.
