No, I haven't, John ... but I can compare specs ... and there's very little difference in dpi between an "all-in-one" and a "dedicated photo printer" ....

Three shades of black, John?

Come on, now ... think about that a little - willya?

BLACK is BLACK ....

Not necessarily. Depends on how the liquid is absorbed on the paper. If it sinks in, you might have one shade. If it floats on the surface, another shade. Whatever coatings on the paper effect the density. Also there can be color influences depending on the image captured, the surface texture of the paper etc. Lots of influences.

You can't possibly think that all printers with the same dpi will have equal photo print quality. I started out with a four color printer, went to a six color, and finally an 8 color and the quality just keeps getting better. As far as the shades of black, that's Epson's terminology. I would have called them gray and light gray, but the bottom line is great prints.

Yep, but to me it takes a special image to justify the High Gloss paper, especially the chrome. I have gone to sending anything that can handle the chrome look off to be printed on Aluminum or Acrylic. But it has to be a killer shot, those are expensive.

Yes, Hassig ... but then you have two shades of grey - no?

Photec ... what kind of subject matter calls for such a treatment, on your part?

In general, high impact & luminance images such as ice, water, backlit translucent colors: here is one that just exploded when I put it on aluminum: http://www.spsclub.org/Members/Jim-Lawrences-Gallery/i-fh4sBjc/A

Zone 0 is black. Very hard for an inkjet print to equal a metallic silver image in this area. You know, those blacks that you sort of sink into.

Exactly, Photec ... Zone Zero is Black ... not 0-1 ... or 0+2 ... it's just ZERO !!!!

Some are coated ... others are flat ... which kind offers the best detail and contrast?

Staples is currently having a sale on HP photo paper. It's buy one and get one free. I got mine today - 2 for $15. They come in different descriptions. One was $22/pack.

So, how many sheets in each pack, then, Tom?

100 sheets per pack. I've been using this brand for a few years now. I only went shopping for 1 pack, but I couldn't resist 2 for 1. I also have a pack of 5 x 7's at 60 per pack. I am very happy with the results of printing pictures on them.

I usually save my grocery bags and cut out 5X7 pieces and print on them......the paper makes great photo paper.

Do they actually still have paper bags at your grocery store, Larry?

I thought they were all plastic, now ....
