Like politicians we get the law enforcement we settle for. There has been current ongoing protest about jumpy fearful cops just blazing away. In 1966 the Black Panthers started an armed policing the police program because of all cop shootings in Oakland and Richmond.

In 1967 armed Black Panthers invaded the statehouse in Sacramento and scared everyone witless. The Don Mulford, R-Piedmont bill was introduced and passed quick smart, which forbids carrying a loaded weapon within an incorporated area.

I remember that. They definitely got some peoples attention. At the time some speculated the panthers were trying to cause gun control legislation. Seems unlikely but who knows.
