I recently purchased Luminar 2018. I am enjoying the software but am not able to download it to my apps. I have a Macbook Air. My operating system is OS X El Capitan, version 10.11.6. When I try to do the download it will only go into downloads. It shows up on my desktop with the Luminar icon and an icon of a hard drive on top of it with a note saying "Install Luminar 2018". I've clicked everything I can think of and it just does not go to my apps. If I close the program from the bottom tool bar, I have to download it again the next time I want to use it.
I've contacted Luminar twice about this. I got the same nice note back both times, saying they are happy to hear from me but can't respond because they are swamped with 3000 emails a day and are in the process of hiring more staff to deal with the volume. OK, but... I'd like to figure this out.
Does anyone know what I need to do to move this software from my downloads to my apps?
And yes, I've checked they did take my money. It's paid. I am no longer on trial.
Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

If you open your download file you should be able to drag and drop Luminar 2018 onto your desktop it should be a .dmg file. Double click on the Luminar 2018 .dmg file it should open then you should be able to drag it into your applications file there should be a window showing you what to do. I have recently installed Luminar 2018 on my MacMini running Sierra 10.12.6. It was really easy to do. I hope this helps you.
That’s exactly why I returned my Luminar 18. Their Customer Service stinks.
They even do not have refunded me for some time. Never again!
Did you double-click the icon you are describing? That should start the installation process.
Also I have to activate the program every time I open it. For some reason it is not activated once and for all. The answer of customer service? The automated note about the thousand of inquiries they have. For 3 weeks now I have not an answer in spite of my 5 complaining emails.

I am sorry to hear of the problems listed above. I have had trouble getting the new Luminar 2018 to show up as a plug-in with Photoshop CC, though it does run as a stand alone application on my Mac. Their customer service is terribly backed up, apparently. However, I think it is worth the trouble as I find it to be a fantastic program. I am in awe of its capabilities.

I used the free trial version but found it very slow on my PC it also is a very greedy memory hogger, so I won't be buying it.

You are correct, I confirm it.

Same here. It took over a week for them to respond (other than the auto-apology). When I couldn't get the tech help I needed, I requested a refund. It took a (another) week for that. Never again.
I recently bought this programme and installed no problem. At instal you drag the icon to your app folder. Once you open the programme go to AURORA 2018 HDR at top next to file edit manage etc and you get the option to install plug ins. Delighted with the programme but you sometimes have to scale back the HDR a bit

Genius! It was as simple as that. Thank you. Now that it’s done I understand the message the icon was saying. Luminar is a great software pp program. Lots of power and lots of options. Glad to have that little issue sorted out because it was buggIng me.
Hope you enjoy your day. You’ve already done your good deed. 😁

I suggest you see the answer from AndyGarcia above. It’s so simple and worked like a charm.
I too had a bunch of problems and after I emailed them asking for a refund and not hearing anything for a week I emailed them again with a copy of the first email. A few days later I got an email response and a few days after that the refund appeared in my account. The whole process only took about two weeks and I didn't find that too bad. I would consider trying it again after they have had time to work out the bugs.
my problem is that on my PC when I go to export the computer locks up and I have to restart in order to do anything else. However I believe they will fit the problem.

Glad to be of assistance. I am totally a Luminar head - my most used PP software. Another great programme is Alien Skin Exposure 3. Great film sims and much, much more. When and if the mood grabs you it's available for trial.
Have a great day yourself and enjoy!
