Walked down to the pond just before dark tonight to see who was there. The water was flat calm after last nights rain and along came this guy making the only ripple in the water. I've run into him now and then during the last few months but he was always too far away and fast to even come close. It was almost dark so I turned up the iso, opened up the lens and lowered the speed.

That was mighty quick thinking that resulted in a very good image. It seems that whenever I encounter a situation like this, by the time I get it all figured out, the subject has long since disappeared. Great shot!!!

Well done. I have as yet to capture one on a photo. They always see me first and I'm rewarded with them hi-tailing into a den or going underwater.

Good catch, I've seen the lodge but not the residents.

Thanks Coot, I've been trying to really learn to change settings on the fly. Always a work in progress.

Thx Swamp Cork. They really move fast but tonight this guy made little attempt to dive. He was just swimming along down the middle of the pond.

thanks vonzip. Isn't that the truth, such slippery little guys. This one was quite large so it made the distance a bit easier to handle.
