I had a call from someone this morning and asked if there would be any interest in the items below. They had a Minolta camera that was stolen and I guess these things have been laying around collecting dust. I really don't know what to tell her. Can the filters be used on any lens with the same fit number? Are they any good by today's standards? What are "Blacks" filters? Any help out there?

Thanks,

Marsha

I may have a few more pieces in another place but this is it for now.
Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

The filters can certainly be used and they are in common sizes! By the way, I perused your photostream and you do superlative work!

Never heard of "Blacks" filters? Perhaps an obscure commercial brand or a store brand?

Minolta glass goes on some Sony Camera's (they bought the company) so will have a reasonable value. The filters probably less so. If the converter is comparable to A to E mount (vice versa) on Sony then again it will have value. Check out Ebay, craigs list etc for the lens and converter.

You would be suprised at how many people 'mix' old and new kit together just to get a 'different' image.

"Minolta 35 mm 7210 Telephoto Lens"

Marsha, I can't be sure but I believe this could be a 70-210 Minolta lens. I use one frequently and it is a great old lens. Usually goes for about $50-100 depending on condition.

I believe Blacks was/is a Canadian brand of photo gear.

So can this only be used on a Minolta 35mm camera?

I see first item is marked MC. MC and MD are earlier Minolta mounts, not compatible with Sony.

The Minolta lens might be worth a look, although 35mm is hardly telephoto. It seems to be a regular 35mm lens - no big deal.

Nothing in the list would interest me at all. If I wanted a filter, I'd do the research and buy a new one. Putting the whole package on ebay might get a sale - maybe.

Black's is a store brand. They are, or were, a camera store in Canada.

“Black’s Camera” was indeed one of the largest photo processing chains in Canada.
They did also have house branded gear - typically more entry level quality they were more of a mall based retailer selling to the “Everyman” not hard core enthusiasts or pros.
Another casualty of digital and printing going the way of the dodo.

Blacks was a Canadian camera store. I have Dad's old tripod from Blacks. I believe they're OOB now.

Those lenses are compatible with an adapter. You will have to manually focus the lens. Sony has a two mount system. A-mount and E-mount Mirrorless.
