An 8x10 print can not be made from a 6x7 negative without cropping.
There is no 6x7 imaging sensor yet available.
There is no digital camera can shoot 8x10 without cropping except those that have the 5:4 mode but that is just in camera cropping.

He's probably just making a statement. This is, more than likely, related to a discussion in another thread earlier today.

Well, there's several minutes I'll never get back. It never ceases to amaze me what gets talked about here.

So true. I often wonder where some of these questions, concepts, etc. come from. Probably insomniacs, but they can be interesting, if not just fun to read through.

The two posts mentioned were probably from an OP who has chosen to ignore a significant number of worthwhile members because they dared to disagree, a common occurrence recently on this section of the forum. Such action makes direct contributions to the original posts impossible without creating a new link. Right, Bebu?

Of course it can! When I worked in a processing and printing lab back in the 1990's, we used to do it all the time... with the help of a thing called, "borders".
Nowadays the norm is to have the image bleed with the edge of the paper, but years ago, bordered prints was the standard.

rook2c4 But then the border is cropping the image.

There was a previous post which was insanity... and people were fool enough to try to explain to the poster why 2+2 can not equal 5. No one suggested taking the sensor out and coating some area border with black paint!!! That would solve the SOOC without cropping to size ! That poster must have belonged to an SOOC rligious cult in which the spirits in the camera knew best.

Crop is the single most important tool we have to focus on the story of the photo. Perhaps people have forgotten the aim of a photo is to tell a story... Crop to the story, get rid of extraneous visual trash.

Really, why has UHH degenerated to the point where tech stuff is no longer discussed? Perhaps because any question can be answered by going to search.
