Eiffel Tower almost dusk

I took this picture from a boat in the Seine River and was trying to frame the Eiffel Tower between the two pillars at the end of a bridge. The settings for the shot were f8, 1/400 shutter, focal length was 105 and ISO was 100. Looking for comments on how to make this a better photo, an excuse to return to Paris and shoot over is always good, lol. I would love to change the sky on this one but my post skills aren't that advanced.

I was using a Canon 6d with Canon 24-105 L lens.

Don't be shy, I have a thick skin and am more interested on learning than worrying about my "feelings".

Thanks

It's a very nice picture but it's always difficult trying to get a slightly new slant on such an iconic structure. To that end you've done well and I guess from a moving boat you had constraints as far as angle go. If it were my image I would either slightly blur the Tower or the pillars as they compete visually. You mentioned that your PP skills are limited but blurring fore/background is at the easier end of the scale so give it a try. It would give far greater depth to the image too and elevate it to another level. Very nice shot though, all things considered.

Thanks for the comments Paul, I will try out your suggestion both ways and see how it looks. I wasn't sure if it was going to work trying to frame it this way and the jury is still out. I did manage to get more conventional pictures of the Tower and other spots while on vacation. I think we are headed back next fall again, the sights, the food and the wine plus so many things still to see. I might try this shot again but instead of being on the boat go I will go to the other river bank and see if I can get a similar improved angle and use a tripod.

I was exclaiming to myself what a great job you did getting everything in beautiful focus, and someone else wants you to blur something. Different tastes. . . . You say this was at almost dusk, and yet it is quite light. I was expecting a darker picture. I think you did very well getting the image you wanted.

Thanks for the kind comments, we have definitely decided to go back next fall! I will have a chance to try some different shots. It is a great city to visit. This shot was taken around 6PM Paris time and the light was getting dull. I would shoot this at the same time again but change my exposure to capture more light.

In this situation you didn't have control of the time when you shot. A little later you may have had better color and contrast in the sky, but it wasn't an option. It looks like you attempted to help the sky some since the top third of the tower is a couple shades darker than the lower levels. Maybe a single frame HDR application would give a better result. Considering your constraints, it's a good job; very sharp, reasonably well exposed and nicely composed. I'd keep it.
