I just returned from a 10-day trip to Chiapas, where I shot about 7000 images. Anyone want to see all of them? Suppose not. Anyway, here are some of Sumidero Canyon, which is a beautiful canyon on the Grijalva River. These have basic LR developing.
The "famous" view of the canyon which is the image used on the emblem for Chiapas

This is a waterfall that comes more as a mist than as a cascade of actual water.

Beautiful! What country is that in?

Thanks. It's in Mexico. It's the large state down on the isthmus leading over into Yucatan. It borders Guatemala to the east. It's where the major earthquake was recently.
Hope we do get to see a lot more, Kathy; these are just a tease
Looks like quite stunning landscapes where you were, and how neat to see a mist fall. Do you know the history or significance of the placement of the Madonna statue? Common or rare?
Thanks for the thumbsup, Longshadow. Glad you liked them.

Thanks, Linda. You know, they explained the madonna, and I've actually totally forgotten. I believe it had something to do with miners, but I'm not sure. I have to check up on that! Sorry.
And yes, I'll probably be boring everyone with pictures from this trip until my next trip! I have another picture of the "mistfall" that I truly love that I'll post soon.
Wow... Kathy, you certainly get around! Beautiful images and to shoot 7,000 pictures, I can't wait to see more!

Thank you so much, Angela. I'll be posting more, don't worry.

A shrine to the Virgen de Guadalupe is tucked into a niche high above the water. The Virgin of Guadalupe is revered throughout Mexico as the special patron of the indigenous people and the poor. The sign next to the ladder says (in Spanish) "To the memory of the last of the living explorers, Dr. Miguel Alvarez del Toro. Tireless defender of nature. Creator of the Sumidero Canyon National Park."
The above is a quote. I knew we talked about it when we were there but couldn't remember. La Virgen de Guadalupe statues are seen all over Mexico, so no, they're not rare. But to find one in a cave high on a cliff wall - - well.
Welcome back, Kathy! Absolutely beautiful images!! I'm going to have to look up this place on Google Earth. I had not even heard of it before now.
