I fist saw them last spring but they didn't stay around for long. Lo and behold they stopped by again this week. I only caught them as the sun was about to disappear and it was getting dark. I had the 1.4iii on the 100 -400 lens which didn't help with the light so the higher iso created a problem with speed. I hope I can catch them again during the daylight hours before they head out.
Sorry, just realized the spelling is wrong in the title and I can't figure out for the life of me how to correct it to Merganser
Even with failing light you got some great shots.

Impressive-looking ducks.

I used to wonder why there were people obsessed with ducks. Then I started to notice them more starting with the hooded merganser. Ducks are really amazing in their variety. I have begun my own fascination with them and am trying to capture as many different species as I can with my camera. I now look forward to duck season when I know there will be a chance to spot something new. I am especially fond of buffleheads. They are small, but fast and somewhat comical in there actions. For beauty there are harlequin ducks, which I have pictures, and the real gem, wood ducks, which I have not yet photographed. But I’m keeping my eyes open!
Beautiful Ducks, great shots
Very nice shots even with low light. These are gorgeous ducks that I have not had the pleasure of seeing lately.
Maybe some day.

Wow! Your photos really nailed it for showing the male and female. I looked at my different bird books to see how their drawings matched your shots, and the best one, in my opinion, was done by Budliger (a former professional colleague) and Kennedy in Birds of New York State. Looking forward to the time you get to see them in better light so I can compare your shots to my bird books that have photos instead of drawings. Keep up the good work.
Bud
EDIT: I just went back and looked at your pictures again and my Smithsonian Field Guide to the Birds of North America and the Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds and your shots are as good as theirs.
