Please give me your opinion of this lens. It is part of a bundle with the Nikon D5600 along with the 18-55mm VR lens.
Thank you.

Pretty sharp for a kit lens. But no VR, so when used at the higher magnifications or at slower shutter speeds, you will probably want to use a tripod. I would say that it's worth more than it costs when it's bundled like this. It's kind of like shooting with a lens like this in film days when there was no VR. You have to decide if you can live with the limitations or not.

I sold mine and bought a lens of identical focal length that was also VR. The lens was great on a tripod, had a nice metal mount, and performed well. I just couldn't get good distant shots when freehanding.

It looks like they offer the kit with the cheap, older, non-VR lens. I'd hold off and get the kit with 18-55mm and then decide about another lens - with VR. The non-VR is available refurbished for just $105, vs about $400 for the newer VR version.

Just remember that while VR is good at stopping your movement, it can't stop that of your subjects. Thus fast moving action cannot be stopped by having VR

The FX version is better ...

I am biased towards lenses with fixed aperture throughout. These lenses are more expensive but much sharper. I recently purchased a used Nikon VR f/4 70-200 and traded in my VR 70-300. I’m assuming that you want the 70-300. Consider buying the body only and purchasing a higher quality lens separately.

Everything in that bundle kit is good, except for the AF-P 70-300mm non VR lens. The AF-P 18-55mm with VR is a good kit lens. If you were to buy the 70-300mm VR separately, it would cost about $400. The non VR about $350. I personally would have preferred to pay the extra $50 to the bundle kit for the VR. The bundle kit is specifically for the beginner, who does not want to break the bank. Both lenses are designed for crop sensor cameras. That kit, even with the non VR 70-300mm, is still a bargain in my opinion. A lot of telephoto lenses don't have VR. There is such a thing called a tripod.

The AF-P DX version with VR is the one to get for a DX camera. The FX version adds weight with very little gain in benefit and triple the price (if you buy the DX version gray market, which you can do for under $200. The only gray market lens I own, but at half price, it makes sense).

Not sure whether the camera you have can do AF fine tuning, but with this lens you need to do it.
