Another year is fast coming to the end, If your like me you have several hundred close up shots on your hard drive and back up's. Every year I go through them delete the one's I don't want and store them on a thub drive, It is a real pain in the a$$, time comsuming, boreing ordeal.

What do you do with yours?

I delete them more frequently than once a year.
A chore, but it needs to be done. Be MERCILESS

I just leave them where they are. Create a new directory called 2018 and go from there.

What's your time worth??

Hard drives are cheap

It'll be a new year soon, treat yourself to a new hard drive

Problem solved

After deleting what I don't want (and that's usually a quite a few), I transfer the rest to DVDs until I'm ready to edit.

I try to keep up with monthly deletions. I tend to edit my favorites from any shoot right away, and then lose interest in the rest, so it's not too hard - ha. I might inadvertently lose some keepers that months later I wish I had, but while I'm still capable of getting around and going out regularly to take new pictures, I will always be looking more forward than back

Hi Johnny, I delete the pics I don't want pretty much every day once I've used them for what I want. I have folders in the Pictures section on my PC for every category and keep the best ones in these folders. For "special" events" or those I want to keep for further reference I have some storage boxes that hold 80 CDs and I keep the master copies in them. I also have an external drive where I keep a copy of what's on my PC. For me, CDs are the best way and they are also the cheapest at only 30-40 cents or so. Despite what some say, In all these years, I've never had a CD not work so I figure they are as safe as any other storage medium. Speaking to friends, there are far more failures with hard drives than any other type of storage. Hope this helps.

I think we all hoard shots that don't justify keeping, either because of lack of quality (they looked great at the time, didn't they?--lol), or duplication. As an example, I have a zillion pelican shots--nothing wrong with them, but who needs 400 or so of them, many of which were taken at the same location & are very similar. I know that I should choose maybe 20 (which is difficult in itself) & delete the rest. However, I shudder at the thought of mass deleting good photos, simply because of having too many, & I suspect that some others might feel the same way. I think we should be more ruthless--if we don't need them, get rid of them....Easier said than done though, lol.

Johnny, they take up so little space I delete only a few, and I do this after the initial upload from the camera to my laptop. I then save them on my WD remote hard file. So far I am using only 15% of my backup drive and about 40% on the laptop.

I "try" to delete them when I download them onto my computer. However, there are still more that I delete later when I'm processing shots in that file. Also, I'll delete when I'm going back over files too. A rather hap-hazard process. I can find that delete button without looking! lol!
