Has anyone figured out how to counterbalance the lens on your camera so if you have it around your neck, the camera doesn't mean rotate so the lens hits your chest/stomach? It would need to be some sort of rigging so you can pull the camera up to shoot.

One option is to go with a sling strap like a Blackrapid Sport. Much easier to work with than the typical camera strap.

Go to B&H Photo and search under camera straps; you'll find what you are looking for.

The feasible solution is to use a shoulder strap like the Black Rapid and attach the strap to the tripod collar of the lens (if available). Although, while walking, it still has a tendency of swaying even with the strap locked.

I bought a "Rapid Fire" Sling Strap made by Altura, which I use with my Nikon D3300+Lens, it rides comfortably by my side, at arms length, ready to Zip up to my eye for my next shot. It cost around $20.00 and I would recommend it. I also bought a plastic holster that I wear on my Belt from Ebay, think it was around $6.00-$7.00, that has also worked for me in carrying my Nikon D3300.

I use an Op/TechUSA sling strap https://optechusa.com/utility-strap-sling.html
It connects to the strap lug the the neck strap connects to, not the tripod socket, leaving the tripod free for use on a tripod.

Thanks, you guys rock. I never thought of searching for a strap, no idea why. amazon seems to have one for $15 while the B and H is $55, today, on sale. I know that I am protecting an expensive piece of equipment, but really, almost 4 times the price?

I use a Black Rapid Sport with M-Plate Pro. The camera hangs comfortably at my side, I can lock it out of the way and I can use both Manfrotto an Arca Swiss tripod or monopod heads without changing anything and without removing the strap. Pretty handy IMO ;-)

After trying several different straps this is the one I use today and would buy again, Joby. The camera is carried upside down attached to the tripod mount screw hole. If you have it on a long lens you attache it to the lens foot. I have two of them and think they are great. Soft at the neck and your camera sets by your side. I have a pro friend that bought the same strap after I showed him mine and now owns two. He will carry two Nikon DSLRs both around his neck at same time, when needed, during a photo session.

There used to be an auxiliary “saddle” that attached to the lens tripod mounting ring and either attached to your strap or went around you neck. I would suggest you put a heavy rubric band around the end or the lens, tie the center of a long cord around and tie the two ends of the cord together with two tautline hitches (so you can adjust the length of the loop), put the loop over your neck and adjust the loop to hold the lens up). There are very soft seatbelt sliders that you can use to keep the loop from cutting into your neck. If you really want to get fancy at a low cost, PM me.

You really want to hang an expensive camera off a $15.00 strap, you have insurance right?

Not sure if anyone still markets one but, some time back, I used a Chest Pouch designed by Galen Rowell. With a neoprene strap on the camera, Galen would put his camera in one and strap it around his chest and go jogging with his camera. If he saw a Photo Op, a tug on a Velcro attached cover and the camera was free. I had 2 versions of these and they worked very well for years.
