Located near Socorro, NM, this is a wildlife refuge serving mainly Sandhill cranes and snow geese during the winter. Fields are planted and cultivated for their feed. Periodically rows of grain are mowed for them to consume. Water is diverted through canals from the Rio Grande to flood the fields and provide a safe place to overnight, protected from predators. During the early and late hours they fly back and forth and one tries to be in the right place at the right time to capture a few images. Lots of fun, good motels in Socorro if you go. The cranes mate for life so there are often two together.

Absolutely lovely. This place is on my bucket list. Hopefully, I'll get there in the next couple of years. Thank you for sharing this very special place!
These are fantastic, great job!
Went there once when I was studying at the U. of New Mexico. Walked into a crowd of Canadian geese. Nearly got "billed" to death before beating a hasty retreat! A wonderful place.
Great shots, great the way wildlife preserves and DNR groups provide for transient wildlife
Thanks for posting such a beautiful set!
