iPhone X vs. Canon 5D Mark III/50mm f/1.4 lens vs Google Pixel 2 XL

I was sent this article from iMore.com on a comparison between an iPhone X camera, a Google Pixel 2 XL, and a Canon 5D Mark III with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. It compares thee potrait shots of the same person and explains how it's done. A bit much with the $3.00 lingo for my understanding, but a clear demonstration comparing diverse platforms. Now, given they're only comparing one subject matter, I'm there's a lot more to this than meets the eye (no pun intended)... That being said it makes for an interesting subject matter...

I like the skin tone of the iPhone shot, but the right side of her face is blown out.

With post processing you won't be able to tell the difference. The advantage of a SLR is you can use various lenses where the phone is stuck with one.

High contrast background elements that intersect the portrait subject look sharper than the rest of the background in the iPhone and Google images. Examine the left side of the image where the girl's hair and the black background object overlap, it doesn't look natural. Out of focus portions of her hair on the right side appear far from her head. I prefer the Canon image.

The Canon shot looks like it was shot at f1.4
