Nice set Karen. Is that Lake Eerie in the background? I like the second from the last. Purple flowers with a bumble bee.

According to Wikipedia: "In forestry and ecology, understory comprises plant life growing beneath the forest canopy without penetrating it to any great extent, but above the forest floor. Only a small percentage of light penetrates the canopy so understory vegetation is generally shade tolerant. The understory typically consists of trees stunted through lack of light, other small trees with low light requirements, saplings, shrubs, vines and undergrowth. Small trees such as holly and dogwood are understory specialists.

So, break out your "understory" pictures from all the seasons and share them here in this challenge...!

Zudith, this is an area that certainly is best served with color photography. My specialty, unfortunately, is black-and-white. But I found this attached frame involving a tight cluster of birch and a few plants. On the outside chance that it might be appropriate, I humbly submit it. I found it unusual that so many birches would sprout in a tight crowd, but I'm not a horticulturalist.

To everyone who participated in this challenge, you have my thanks. I have been unable to gain access via my computer, so have not been able to view the last few pages well enough to comment on your submissions. I am sure they are all beautiful, and will take a closer look when I get back home.

Pg. 22 It is unusual Richard, I've never seen the like before. I'm glad you found it to share with UHH.
