As a newbie, this is my first Nikon Black Friday sale. The flyer arrived in our Sunday paper. Surprisingly, these was no price reduction for the 850 (LOL). I have a D80 and I am concentrating now on upgrading lenses with a view toward a better body in the future. I am thinking a FF camera so the apparently good deal on macro/landscape lenses (DX) would not be a good long term investment, correct?
Correct. They would work but only in crop mode, which would defeat the purpose of the upgrade.

Bill de, Thanks for stopping my GAS attack!
If FF is your future, save toward that, within 6 months, you'll have a better idea of Nikon's FF offerings, especially if they upgrade the D750 or intro some FF mirrorless.

Thanks for the advice. I am just coming around to mastering my old technology and coming to grips with PSE 15. About this time next year I might know enough to take some major steps.

FX and DX lenses are different BUT when you look at how the technology moves there is less and less reason to go to a FX body. Check out the D500. If this camera does not blows your pants* off the D850 will not either.
Now, if you are determined to invest in a FX camera purchase FX lenses now to use them later. Just make sure they are great quality and not 'el cheapo' sold in promotions. When I purchased my first DX I intended to move to FX so beside the initial walk around lens 18~200 every lens after that was a FX.
I now have a D800e (to be upgraded to an D850) and lenses that are outstanding and a D500 using the FX lenses and the initial walk around DX zoom used on the D300. The best of both world.
You have to think long term thought.

Thanks for the thoughts. Hard to keep up with the technology, but I want to end up with a good, all around setup.
