Oldies taken with a 10Mpx D200. Download is best. Original RAW files are significantly sharper. Hope you enjoy them.

Excellent, you couldn't ask for better pictures than that! It just proves that the latest and greatest gear is not always the panacea some think it is.

Thanks nimbushopper. I think it shows that amateur photography takes patience, lighting, and being in the right place at the right time. lol

Your shots are quite beautiful. But one stood out for me in a sort of melancholy way. The buck with the tracking collar. It is really sad that in this world in which we live, we need to collar and track wildlife just to ensure that there will still be some left for the next generation to enjoy.

So true, Burtzy. Two Elk populations were established in the area....this one in "Old Cataloochee" near Maggie Valley, NC. The Elk herds are flourishing there and they seem both healthy and happy. It is a remote area, open to the public but accessible only via gravel logging road. Elk in "rut" are amazing photo subjects.

My main DSLR is a Pentax because I have accumulated a lot lenses over the years. I also have a lot of Nikon lenses so a couple of weeks ago I bought a D200 from KEH in excellent condition for $144. I love the camera and the photos; does everything I need it to do and I didn't have to break the bank 🙂.

My D200 is about 10 years old now. Never had any problems with it. Built like a rock. Has all the features I will ever need. I have printed 24"x36" with absolutely beautiful resolution and color (by the now-defunct Ritz Camera, local store). I have no intention of ever selling an image (they only have value to me)...but I do give them away to friends. Having grown up with film and transparencies....with large, medium and 35mm format cameras....including all the darkroom work....remembering the cost of film, processing and time involved...I take my time. I may shoot a single shot, or perhaps a couple images to be sure....then I select the most pleasing (sharpness/focus, lighting, composition, etc) to keep. Some days, I carry my camera and may not actuate the shutter once. Photography has always been a hobby to me. Hobbies are not things that should control your life, or give angst. I take it one day at a time....one click at a time. Glad you have enjoyed a few of my images.

Recommendation: Don't waste your money on cheap glass. Do your research and buy the very best you can afford. Most of my best images with this camera have been taken with my (Nikkor AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8 G IF-ED) and my (Nikkor AF-S Micro 105mm f/2.8 G ED).

Finally: There are many attributes of pleasing images....but if you don't have lighting you don't have anything.

Thanks for all your encouraging comments.
