Amboy California - Route 66 Ghost Town

Amboy was a bustling community in the heydays of Route 66. It even had a school. But it has been sidelined by Interstate 40. I believe there are currently 4 residents. One appears to work at Roy's. No longer a diner (there is no running water for the kitchen), it is a small souvenir and snack shop. Surprisingly, the post office is still open and staffed.

Very interesting group of images. In the first one I noticed that Roy's motel had a vacancy. If I ever pass through Amboy, I will definitely plan on spending a night at Roy's.

Alas, tbell7D, the motel and cabins are "closed for refurbishing."

Nice set there. I know Amboy, driven thru many times. You missed the Amboy (volcanic smoker) Crater, and the Amboy Salt Works. I've stopped at the Amboy Roy's Motel decades ago to look around and take photos. Yes there was a Roy's Cafe or Restaurant at one time. (Surf guitarist) Dick Dale used to fly his plane in and out of the area and would stop a Roy's to eat.

Very nicely done. In the shot of the post office, I'm afraid to ask what that thing on the ground is. LOL >Alan

There is a guy who built his own rocket from spare parts and will be launching from Amboy in the near future. His plan is to reach 1.800 feet and then bail out.
